Martial breaks his silence after failing to train for Man United

Anthony Martial has broken his silence on social media after failing to train since leaving Manchester United’s tour of America.

The Frenchman, who left midway through the tour to attend the birth of his second child, angered Jose Mourinho by not rejoining the squad for the final two games.

The forward has not been back at United’s training ground since the birth of his son a week ago, which has led to Martial facing disciplinary action.

The 22-year-old faces a £180,000 fine – which equates to two weeks’ wages – as speculation grows he will leave Manchester United in this summer’s transfer window.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Martial wrote in French: "Thank you all for your messages. My little Swan is well, it was more difficult for the mum but thanks to God she is better now. I’m sorry but my family will always come first. Back in Manchester tomorrow."

Mourinho is looking to offload Martial, after coming to the conclusion the forward is simply not mentally strong enough to play under him, with United wanting £70million for him.

But the Red Devils are struggling to sign a replacement for Martial before the Premier League transfer window closes on August 9, with Inter Milan and Croatia star Ivan Perisic having emerged as Mourinho’s top target.

After United ended their US tour with a 2-1 win in Miami over reigning European champions Real Madrid, Mourinho was asked if Martial would be leaving.

Mourinho dodged that question, saying: "Anthony Martial is better for Karen [United’s press officer] to answer if she wants to answer."

The United boss was pressed on whether Martial would be part of his squad upon their return to Manchester and would only say: "I don’t know."

Should Man United sell Anthony Martial if they can sign Ivan Perisic?
