Meghan Markle arrived to the launch of her new cookbook, her first solo project as a royal, wearing a bright blue coat by Smythe, a Tuxe sleeveless top, and a pleated skirt by Misha Nonoo, one of her close friends. She accessorized with classic black pumps, bringing the whole ensemble together.
The Duchess of Sussex’s royal wardrobe is always as showstopper, but today, people were less focused on what she was wearing, and more on who she was bringing: her mother, Doria Ragland.
This marked Ragland’s first time attending one of Meghan’s royal engagements, and her first time in public with her daughter since the royal wedding. It was a supportive move for the proud mom to join the Duchess to launch her first solo project as a royal, launching Together: Our Community Cookbook.
The book features recipes from women of Hubb Community Kitchen in the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Center in West London, where they share and prepare food after being displaced by last year’s tragic Grenfell fire. At today’s launch, they’re joining the Duchess in preparing food for some local guests.
Markle has been visiting Hubb (“love” in Arabic) Community Kitchen privately since January, the Palace revealed. She also penned the foreword to the cookbook.
“I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen; it is a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry and cook together,” she writes. “Melding cultural identities under a shared roof, it creates a space to feel a sense of normalcy – in its simplest form, the universal need to connect, nurture, and commune through food, through crisis or joy – something we can all relate to.”
Proceeds from Together will go towards keeping Hubb Community Kitchen open and running.
