Make-up free Mel C, 47, harks back to her Sporty Spice days as she steps out in tight activewear for a low-key shopping trip in north London

She rose to fame as a member of 90s girl group The Spice Girls.

And Mel C was channelling her Sporty Spice alter-ego as she enjoyed a trip to the shops in north London on Saturday.

The singer, 47, sported a blue running jacket and black leggings as she picked up a bag of essentials on the outing.

Mel displayed her flawless complexion by going makeup free, listening to music during her low-key stroll.

She dressed her svelte physique in the blue jacket and skintight leggings and trainers as she carried her purchases home.

Mel swept her glossy brunette tresses into a tight up-do as she headed out while a majority of businesses remain closed due to the Covid lockdown.

Last month, Mel claimed she doesn’t think she’d ‘survive’ if she became a star during the current age of social media.  

The songwriter reflected on the hardships she faced during her rise to fame in the 90s on Sink The Pink’s Pop-Tarts’ live Instagram series on Thursday.

Discussing her appearance as a guest judge on The Voice Kids, she detailed her relief at not entering the spotlight today by saying: ‘I don’t think I’d hack it, I don’t think I’d survive today.’  

In October last year, Mel spoke of how she ‘struggled’ with an eating disorder and depression after the pressures of her Spice Girls fame ‘pushed her to the point of illness’. 

The singer, who rose to prominence as Sporty Spice in the hugely successful nineties pop group, described how she found the lows of fame ‘devastatingly hard’.

Mel, who was 20 when she responded to an advert to form a girl group in 1994, told how she had ‘everything’ she had ‘ever dreamed of’ but was ‘desperately unhappy.’ 

Speaking to The Observer, she said: ‘The lows of being famous were devastatingly hard.’ 

She continued: ‘It pushed me to the point of illness. I was struggling with an eating disorder and suffering from depression. 

‘I had everything I’d ever dreamed of, and was desperately unhappy. It’s often forgotten that people in the public eye are human.’
