Miranda Lambert currently owns eight dogs, has fostered 38

I fell in love with these pups from @nashvillehumane that’ll be up for adoption at #CMAFest this year, but I already have 8 dogs so it’s y’alls turn to adopt! Check out @muttnation’s page to see more pics of the dogs that’ll be up for adoption this year. ?: 3 Dogs & A Cat Rescue Photography

Miranda Lambert and her ex, Blake Shelton, are not known for being animal friendly. They hunted for sport, not just for meat. (No shade on people who hunt for meat. I eat meat so I can’t complain.) Anyway Miranda is a dog mom and she loves and cherishes her pets. She started a charity in 2009 called Muttnation and she personally currently has eight dogs. That’s crazy. She also loves to foster dogs and says she’s fostered 38 of them. That’s amazing. She probably only likes to foster dogs that already have owners though.

You’re a lifetime member of the NRA and have had a handgun license since your early 20s. What’s your relationship with guns now?
My dad was a police officer, so early on I was taught gun safety, what guns were for, how to use them and when not to touch them. I’ve just grown up around them, so it’s my normal. I’m a girl, I travel a lot by myself, and I like to carry to protect myself. I know everybody has an opinion on it and it’s polarizing, but for me it’s just a way of life.

Nearly 10 years ago you founded an animal-rescue charity. Why are dogs so special to you?
It’s where my heart is. It started with volunteering at the Humane Society in Texas; I adopted a little dog who was my companion. Her name is Delilah. For the first seven years of my career, she went everywhere with me; she was therapy. When I lived in Oklahoma, it was a very rural area and I fostered about 38 dogs myself. Now I have eight. I think that’s pretty good.

For years I have wanted a dog. I rent my house and my landlord would probably let me have one even though she’s not too keen on the idea. Someone tried to unsuccessfully break into my house the other day. (I have dummy cameras that blink red and I think they spotted them and took off.) I just ordered one of those cheap security systems that advertise on podcasts and I went to the SPCA this week looking for a dog. There was a huge doofy pitbull that was friendly and full of energy. I want to smoosh his giant face and love on him but I don’t think I could care for him long term. I might be able to foster a dog though. There are no organizations right in my town but there are some nearby. This is a nice reminder that I could foster a dog.

As for her relationship with guns, I think she should denounce the NRA and that it’s a cop out to say “everybody has an opinion on it,” but I don’t have a problem with people who are responsible and educated gun owners. It did not occur to me to get a gun after the near break in this week and I would rather have a dog than a gun any day.
