Nikki Sixx, one of the founding members of the rock group Mötley Crüe recently spoke with Marci Wiser of KLOS-FM about the early days of his career.

The 62-year-old bassist shared that he arrived in Los Angeles in the ’70s and took up a slew of low-paying jobs while attempting to put a band together.

“I didn’t have the best support system with a mom and a dad. My grandparents did the best they could,” he admitted.

Sixx added that he would not recommend “getting dumped on the corner of Hollywood and Vine with a dream,” but at the same time, he would not hesitate to do it all over again if given the choice.

The musician also revealed that he cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to attempt to carve out a niche in today’s music world.

“Everyone is just making records on laptops. I mean, we would rehearse like 10 hours a day, and we lived for it,” he said. “We woke up and just went straight to rehearsal. … Human interaction, imagine that!”
