They faced scrutiny after sharing several eyebrow-raising social media posts about Covid-19 lockdowns last month.

But former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley, 49, and his cosmetic nurse girlfriend Alex Pike, 44, clearly haven’t let the controversy put a dampener on their romance.

The high-profile couple looked as loved up as ever on Monday as they stepped out in Melbourne for coffee and a stroll through the park.

Smiling like giddy teenagers, the lovers chatted animatedly as they made their way down the leafy streets in form-fitting activewear.

Botox-loving Alex, who follows a philosophy of ‘ageing positively’, cut a youthful figure in a pale purple crop top and matching leggings.

Revealing a generous glimpse of her toned tummy and cleavage, the brunette completed her look with a black zip-up jacket and a pair of white sneakers.

The mother of three packed lightly for the brisk walk, choosing only to carry a mobile phone in one hand and her take-away coffee in the other.

Meanwhile, Nathan looked trendy in an all-blue activewear ensemble, consisting of shorts, a zip-up hoodie and a New York Yankees baseball cap.

Unlike his ladylove, Nathan chose to cover his mouth and nose with a face mask. 

Upon arriving at the café, the pair were spotted laughing and joking together before ordering matching take-away beverages.

At one stage, they appeared to share a joke with a waiter who perhaps recognised them from the tabloids.

The sighting comes weeks after Nathan faced backlash for questioning the contagiousness of the Delta strain of Covid on Twitter. 

At the time, Victoria had just been plunged into its fifth lockdown in 16 months after the latest outbreak in New South Wales crossed the border.

Nathan, who recently stepped down as Magpies coach, tweeted: ‘53,283 tests yesterday in Victoria, presumably most of those from people exposed to people and places with confirmed positives… 16 new positives.

Nathan was soon hit with backlash from angry Twitter users and health experts.

The champion midfielder took the outrage on notice and backtracked on his comments, admitting he supported the lockdown. 

‘Totally agree on these short, sharp, hard lockdowns,’ he wrote. ‘They seem to be quite effective. I wonder what the long-term solution is though.’

He also had a parting message to his critics.

Alex and Nathan’s relationship emerged just weeks after the champion midfielder announced his split from his wife of 18 years, Tania Minnici, last December.
