One Direction spark hopes of a reunion

One Direction start a new Whatsapp chat sparking hopes of a reunion – as ‘three members record vocals together at a studio in Los Angeles’

One Direction have started a new group Whatsapp chat sparking hopes that they will reunite seven years after announcing their indefinite hiatus.

Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan are believed to all be back in contact thanks to the creation of the group chat.

The chart-topping band, which was first created by Simon Cowell on the X Factor, released five albums in as many years.

Now fans are hoping that new music from the band could be in the works, after Liam 29, revealed that they boys are all talking again.

Liam recently told The Sun On Sunday: ‘I don’t know — but we just started a new group chat, so that is something’

He was pressed on if that meant that One Direction would be back soon, however he apparently shrugged and refused to comment further.

Another suggestion that the band is set to get back together, is that Niall and Louis have reportedly been helping Liam on his new record.

They joined Liam in a Los Angeles studio where he has been working on his second solo album.

According to a source, Louis and Niall recorded guest vocals for one of one of Liam’s new singles on the album.

An insider said: ‘Liam is great pals with Niall and Louis, so loved catching up with them while they were all in LA. Being in the studio together felt natural, so they all jumped on a track.

‘It was second nature to them singing together and felt like old times. They had a right laugh. Producers are hoping Liam includes it on his finished album, fans will love it.’

Last month it was reported that Liam in particular is reportedly desperate for a One Direction reunion to relaunch his career.

The popstar had been trying to get in contact with his former bandmates, according to Ok! Magazine.

It comes after Liam recently reunited with Louis at the premiere of his documentary All Of Those Voices in London.

A source said: ‘Liam is desperate to get back on the road with the boys. His solo career hasn’t remained as successful as he hoped it would, and work has become stagnant for him.

‘In contrast, he can see how well Harry is doing and he’d love that level of stardom for himself.

Liam has somewhat damaged his relationship with his former bandmates in recent years – especially when he made some controversial remarks on Paul Logan’s podcast.

The star caused a massive upset among the One Direction fanbase last year after making some controversial comments about the group.

He claimed that the group was formed around himself, and that he outsold his fellow bandmates with his debut single – a fact that was disputed by fans.

He called Zayn Malik a ‘d***’, adding there were ‘many reasons why I dislike Zayn’ and alluded to singer’s altercation with Yolanda Hadid last year.

Liam also said that he and Louis Tomlinson had hated each other when they were in One Direction and claimed to have been thrown into a wall by one of his bandmates.

The headline-grabbing claims did not go down well with fans, and they took to Twitter to drag the hitmaker with viral memes and starting joke trends about blocking his social media accounts.

The source talking to Ok! has now said that he regrets the things he has said about the boys in the past and that he didn’t think he would get the backlash that he did.

The insider claimed that he has been trying to get in touch with Harry and Niall about getting the band back together but that he’s worried he may have ‘burnt his bridges with Zayn.’

After the podcast he apologised for his comments, saying he had a ‘chip on my shoulder’ and ‘took it out on everyone else’.

He added that he ‘loves my boys’ appearing to refer to the One Direction members.

Liam said that the criticism had led to things going ‘quite dark’ for him and that he didn’t leave his house for three months, but that he was able to laugh at the jokes.

Taking to his Instagram Story on Saturday, he wrote: ‘It got quite dark for me for one point when you guys turned on me. I didn’t leave the house for 3 months.’

He went on: ‘You guys know I’m sorry about all that stuff I love my boys not sure what was going on with me other than I had a problem with me and I took it out on everyone else…

‘Never had a bigger chip on my shoulder and I’m really glad to lose it.

‘I’m hoping that you guys can forgive me in time because we’ve been through far [too] much but the jokes are funny keep em coming.’

He then joked he was ‘waiting for the blame’ if England lost the World Cup quarter-finals match against France.

Liam added: ‘If England win I hope I also get the blame then I give you full license to block me… I’m joking please don’t block me.’

More recently in a now-deleted Instagram post uploaded after the premiere of All Of Those Voices, Liam spoke of his mistakes and emphasized his hope that his ex-bandmates will one day be able to put the past behind them.

‘Seeing the world through your eyes last night was the most beautiful thing to experience,’ he wrote of the documentary, which looks at Louis’ journey through the music industry.

‘My neck hurts from how much I’m looking up to you right now. You were already my friend and brother but getting to look through that window into your world and mind just extends that respect I have for you. What you’ve dealt with and how you held it all inside!!

‘I’m so sorry I was so out of my mind and I didn’t do better for you, I feel ashamed in those moments to not be as good of a friend as you have been to me, at least I have time now and I’m me again so will try and make amends.’

He also made steps to reignite his friendship with Harry after his Grammys success back in February.

In an Instagram post after the event, he wrote, ‘Wow… this image is really something to wake up to and when you write music like you do Harry you deserve every millisecond of that moment looking down smiling at the trophy you’ve earned. God bless you brother congratulations.’

Happier times: One Direction spent nearly five years as a group of five before one year without Malik, ahead of their 2016 split (pictured on X Factor in 2010)

Each member auditioned for the show separately but failed to make it to the Judge’s Houses stage as solo acts.

They went on to sell more than 70million records over a very successful career before splitting in 2016.

The news of their extended break was first revealed in August 2015, just a few months after Zayn unexpectedly quit the band, leaving fans around the world heartbroken.

They won 200 awards including seven Brit Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, six Billboard Music Awards, seven American Music Awards and 28 Teen Choice Awards.
