MailOnline exclusively revealed on Friday that Paddy, 48, had split from wife Christine, 34, after 11 years of marriage, with the pair ‘living separate lives’ for months.

A week prior he had been hit by claims that he cheated on his wife Christine with a fellow TV star last year, and on Sunday the Take Me Out host was forced to deny that he’d been secretly flirting with a second star behind estranged Christine’s back.

Yet Paddy seemed in good spirits as he threw himself back into work, revealing he’d enjoyed his ‘first day back at the office’ while working on season 33 of Top Gear.

Paddy – who lives in Cheshire with his estranged wife and their three children – had checked into a London hotel for the filming, but took to his Insta Stories to show that he was struggling without some of his home comforts.

The presenter shared his struggle at trying to draw a bubble bath, resorting to using hotel shampoo to fill his tub.

His efforts were fruitless, however, as he later shared a selfie having a soak but without any bubbles in sight.

Paddy also posted a picture to mark his first day back in the office, posing for a selfie inside his car that he captioned: ‘Lights. Camera. Action! First day back at the office swanning around Canary Wharf in the brand new Range Rover. Very powsh.

Paddy revealed he was back at work the day before, taking to Instagram with a short clip showing a car boot filled with various chocolate bars and confectionary.

As he panned the camera over boxes of Oreo cookies and tubs of Haribo sweets he quipped: ‘Back on Top Gear we take our snacking very seriously.’

The father-of-three and his co-hosts Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris have fronted Top Gear since 2019 and are currently filming season 33 of the long-running BBC motor series.

Paddy’s return to work comes just days after he denied claims he secretly flirted with a second girl behind estranged wife Christine’s back – amid allegations he kissed another TV star.

The Sun reported that Christine was ‘furious’ at the new claims – but it was shot down by Paddy’s camp, as well as a source close to the unnamed TV star, who is said to be a lookalike of Christine.

The publication had previously claimed a ‘very hurt’ Christine had confided in her friends about her suspicions of Paddy’s infidelity as well a flirtatious exchange with a TV girl on Twitter, with a source saying she ‘had a feeling for a while something wasn’t right’.

It’s over: MailOnline exclusively revealed on Friday that Paddy, 48, had split from wife Christine, 34, after 11 years of marriage, with the pair ‘living separate lives’ for months (pictured in 2018)

The source told The Sun of Christine’s feelings towards the second girl: ‘She was convinced that at the very least there was an attraction there.

‘She felt hurt and betrayed. She didn’t want to react immediately, so she pretended she was none the wiser and gave herself some time to think and work out what to do.

‘But it of course caused a lot of tension when things were already very difficult. Without trust, it was hard to see a way of making things work.’

Christine’s spokeswoman said: ‘She’s dealing with the breakdown of her marriage in private.’

They confirmed their separation via Instagram on Friday, but revealed they will continue living together for the sake of their three children with autism.

Christine and Paddy share twins Penelope, and Leo, eight, and Felicity, six, all of whom have been diagnosed with the developmental disorder – and they insist their upbringing remains a top priority.

‘Difficult’: Paddy and Christine shared joint statements on Instagram on Friday explaining that they still live happily together in their family home and their main focus is to support their kids

Sharing a joint statement, they wrote:  ‘We hadn’t planned on sharing this publicly until we were ready but after the lack of privacy surrounding our personal life, we feel left with no other option but to clarify.

‘A while ago we took the difficult decision to separate but our main focus as always is to continue loving and supporting our children.

‘This was not an easy decision to make but we’re moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children. We’ll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together.

‘We hope this now draws a line under anymore unwanted and unnecessary intrusion into our private life.

‘Although we work in the public eye we ask kindly if you could respect our wishes for privacy on this matter. We’ll be making no further comment.’

A source told MailOnline: ‘Paddy and Christine have given everything to their marriage over the years.

‘Sadly, they have made the tough decision to part ways for the sake of their young family, who they will continue to co-parent together.

‘It’s been no secret within their inner circle that it’s been a difficult few years for them as a couple but they still very much support each other and will continue to do so throughout their separation.’
