Piers Morgan, 56, has sparked a frenzy amongst his fans after he congratulated Good Morning Britain on some “exciting news” the programme shared this morning.
The ITV show revealed on its official Twitter page that it has received a nomination for the Best Lockdown Programme – News, Documentaries and Factual category in the Broadcast Awards 2021.
The announcement read: “We have some exciting news!
“We have been nominated for the Best Lockdown Programme – News, Documentaries and Factual category in this year’s @BroadcastAwards!”
Piers retweeted GMB’s post and simply wrote: “Congratulations,” in view of his 7.9 million followers.
The outspoken journalist’s brief message comes after his explosive exit from GMB last month over a row about Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Before the controversial moment, Piers was previously praised by the show’s viewers for holding the government to account during lockdown over how ministers were handling the coronavirus pandemic in the UK.
Fans rushed to the comments section of Piers’ post to share their thoughts on his reaction to the award nomination.
One person wrote: “I think it’s you holding the government to account that’s put that programme where it is.”
Another added: “Imagine what they would have been nominated for without piers on the show in lockdown……nothing.Congrat @piersmorgan.”(sic)
