‘I just lost myself’: Pregnant Kate Ferdinand recalls having a ‘mini-breakdown’ as she talks motherhood and juggling time for herself during an appearance at The Baby Show

She’s expecting her second biological child with husband Rio Ferdinand this year.

And Kate Ferdinand opened up about motherhood during an appearance at parenting exhibition The Baby Show in London on Saturday.

The former TOWIE star, 31, already shares son Cree, two, with her footballer husband and is step-mum to his three children Lorenz, 16, Tate, 14, and Tia, 11.

Taking part in a live podcast during the event, the pregnant star recalled having a ‘mini-breakdown’ around the time of her first labour as she grappled with becoming a mother to four.

Sharing that she didn’t take enough time for herself and became run-down with worrying about the children, Kate recalled ‘losing herself’.

Kate looked stunning at the event as she showed off her growing baby bump in a figure-hugging khaki bodysuit.

She teamed a pair of elasticated black cargo trousers on top while placing a supportive hand over the bump for some pictures.

During the event, she appeared on stage alongside Zoe Blaskey for a live edition of podcast Motherkind, chatting on her own experiences.

As the host asked how she was doing, Kate shared that she had brought 11-year-old Tia along to the event with her.

‘Some days are great and some days are just total exhuastion. But today is great, maybe it’s because not all the kids are here. Tia is here, my daughter Tia, she’s asked me to give her a shoutout,’ she began.

Host Zoe asked how she has managed to successfully navigate a blended family with Rio and his children, who he shared with late wife Rebecca Ellison, who died in 2015 from cancer.

Admitting it hasn’t been smooth sailing, Kate recalled focusing so much on making sure all the kids were alright that she didn’t have any time for herself.

Looking back at the time, she shared: ‘I physically felt like i was having a mini-breakdown and I didn’t even know how to make time for me. I lost myself, I couldn’t even dress myself.’

But now taking time to go to the gym and enjoy activities on her own, Kate has managed to strike up a more healthy balance.

And sharing that the birth of her son Cree has brought the family closer as a unit, she did admit that there were initial worries before his arrival.

‘When Cree came we were a bit nervous because he’s my first biological child so we didn’t know how he would fit into the mix, but it’s just been great and has brought us all closer,’ she explained.

Continuing: ‘It’s just a crazy house, it’s full of fun and laughs and madness. I can’t shower in peace, I’m looking at Tia when I say that. So now, I announce when I’m going for a shower and I say “maybe I’ll come in when you’re showering” and then that usually gets them to stop.’

Kate also hosts podcast of her own Blended, which is to support and chat with other families who has blended children in the mix.

Sharing how she and Rio have managed to get to where they are now, she defined it as: ‘Leading with the heart, consistency and just being a team really.’
