Prince Andrew takes official step back from public duty as he awaits civil trial

Prince Andrew has officially stepped back from his public duty as he awaits a trial in his civil case against Virginia Giuffre in the US.

The Royal Family's Twitter account posted an official statement announcing the decision has been made with the support and "approval" of The Queen, his mother.

"With The Queen’s approval and agreement, The Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to The Queen," it read.

"The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen."
