Prince Charles was pictured offering a gentlemanly greeting to Queen Letizia of Spain as the pair carried out a joint public engagement in Country Durham on Tuesday.
The 72 year old appeared in happy spirits as he greeted the Spanish royal, giving Queen Letizia a kiss on the cheek before squeezing her hand fondly during their arrival at Auckland Castle in Bishop Auckland.
Queen Letizia was among the foreign royals along at Prince Philip ’s memorial service last week and reunited with the Prince of Wales again today.
Queen Letizia made an elegant appearance at Auckland Castle as she wore a raspberry red dress covered over with a black A-line coat and paired her ensemble with matching red court heels and a quilted purse.
Prince Charles looked smart alongside the Spanish royal in a light grey suit with a burgundy tie and a matching pocket square, completing his tailored look with dark brown lace-up brogues.
The pair were scheduled during their visit to launch the exhibition 'Zurbarán: the twelve tribes of Israel: Jacob and his sons' which was being held at the Spanish Gallery inside the venue.
The gallery at the castle is where the biggest collection of Spanish art inherited from the Golden Age is housed in the UK, marking it a great place for the new exhibition.
Prince Charles and Queen Letizia met previously in 2019 for another art occasion as the pair celebrated the opening of a National Gallery exhibition displaying visual pieces from late Spanish impressionist Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida.
The royal pair also came together two years prior as Queen Letizia visited Clarence House with her husband King Felipe for a meeting in which Prince Charles acted as host.
Prince Charles' appearance at Auckland Castle comes days after the Duke visited the EastEnders set for a street party with the cast, filmed in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, which takes place in June.
The Prince of Wales was joined by his wife Camilla as the pair were greeted by iconic actors from the BBC soap which included Danny Dyer who plays Mick Carter, Steve McFadden who stars as Phil Mitchell and Letitia Dean who features as Sharon Watts.
Speaking of the onset Royal visit the actress said: “To have the opportunity to mark the Queen’s upcoming Platinum Jubilee with a visit from The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall was just beautiful and it will go down in EastEnders history.”
