Bob Marley was killed by the CIA claims a wild conspiracy theory that has been resurfaced by rapper T.I.
The American rapper and actor took to Instagram to share a news article about claims ex-CIA agent Bill Oxley made on his deathbed.
Oxley said he "infected Marley with cancer" during one of 17 assassinations he claimed to carry out for the US government between 1974 and 1985.
The No Woman No Cry singer died from brain cancer in 1981 but the story claimed the US murdered the Reggae legend because he was "starting a revolution".
In the now debunked article, Oxley is quoted as saying he acted as a New York Times photographer to get close to Marley at his Blue Moountains retreat.
"I gave him a pair of Converse All Stars. Size 10. When he tried on the right shoe, he screamed out," he is quoted as saying.
"That was it. His life was over right there and then. The nail in the shoe was tainted with cancer viruses and bacteria."
The story – ran on a website connected to conspiracy theorist David Icke – has been widely ridiculted.
But that didn’t stop T.I. from sharing it with his 8.9m followers.
"I’m just gon leave this here…" he commented.
Marley wasdiagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma in 1977 and died on 11 May 1981 in Miami. He was just 36.
