Russell Crowe resumes filming his new movie Poker Face in Sydney – after production was shut down following a Covid-19 outbreak on set

Russell Crowe’s new thriller Poker Face has resumed filming in Sydney, months after production was temporarily shut down.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the 57-year-old actor was spotted filming a scene for the film at a home in Waverton on Saturday.

Another scene involving a car chase around the Harbour Tunnel with Liam Hemsworth and American rapper RZA is also going to be filmed in the coming months.

The big budget action flick was put on pause last year after a number of crew members tested positive to Covid.

Crowe is set to direct and star in the high octane outing which is set inside the glamorous world of high-stakes poker and also features a cameo from Hemsworth’s sister-in-law Elsa Pataky.

The film will be produced by Australian actor Addam Bramich and Gary Hamilton.

Shot both at Fox Studios and across a number of NSW landmarks, the film was originally due to wrap in September last year.

Written by Aussie screenwriter Stephen Coates, Poker Face was originally slated to be directed by Gary Fleder, who was responsible for 1995 crime thriller Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead.

However, scheduling issues and some internal studio conflict led to Crowe taking the reins in what is his second major directing outing since 2014’s The Water Diviner.

Crow will also star in the lead role of Jake – a grizzled tech billionaire who finds himself the subject of a violent home invasion.

Much of the film is already in the can, having been shot across a number of Sydney landmarks including the $100million Crown Residence penthouse at Barangaroo and the Kiama coastline.

Crowe confirmed in late August 2021 that at least one crew member had tested positive to Covid-19 just six days before the end of the shoot.

‘Unfortunately 6 days from the end of our shoot on PokerFace we have had a confirmed positive COVID case amongst our crew and a second possible positive under further investigation by our PokerFace Covid team and NSWHealth,’ he wrote on his Instagram account.
