Sophie Turner reveals she found out ex Joe Jonas filed for divorce ‘through the MEDIA’ – as she accuses him of LYING in court docs and blindsiding her with split after bitter argument that sparked ‘very quick breakdown of the marriage’
- Jonas, 34, filed for divorce after pair had an argument weeks earlier, docs claim
- The Game Of Thrones alum, 27, is suing her ex to move her kids back to the UK
- American singer has since denied claims he blindsided his ex with divorce filing
Sophie Turner has claimed she found out that estranged husband Joe Jonas was filing for divorce in the media – as the British actress files to sue her ex in order to try and move their two children back to her native UK.
The latest bitter twist in the pair’s messy divorce battle came on Thursday when documents filed to the US District Court in New York revealed the 27-year-old Game Of Thrones alum is petitioning ‘for the return of children to England.’
Jonas, 34, shocked fans around the world when he filed for divorce in Miami, Florida earlier this month from the mother of his two children.
It appears Turner was equally as taken aback as the court doc states: ‘Thereafter, the breakdown of the parties’ marriage happened very suddenly. The parties had an argument on August 15, 2023.
‘On or about September 1, 2023, the Father filed a divorce case against the Mother in Florida. On or about September 5, 2023, the Mother found out through the media that the Father had filed for divorce.’

However, a representative for Jonas quickly hit back at the allegation and said in a statement to DailyMail.com: ‘After multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce.’
He also claimed that the Florida Court ‘has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children’ and that Turner was served with the order on September 6.’
The former couple had been married for four years, and share daughters three-year-old Willa and one-year-old D.J..
In documents seen by DailyMail.com, Turner alleges that the pair had made plans to move their children to a new home in England before their split.
‘The parties’ shared plan was for the Mother and children to join the Father and his extended family for part of the Father’s band’s United States tour, and then to return home to England,’ the document stated.
It continued: ‘The family would continue to live in a rental property in England, and then move in together to their new home in England upon its completion in December 2023.
‘In furtherance of the parties’ shared plan, the children travelled to the United States with the Father and their nanny.’
In the rebuttal statement, Jonas’ rep claimed that the pair had a ‘cordial meetings this past Sunday’ in New York when Turner came to pick up their children.
Turner’s lawyer also allege that Jonas has made ‘incorrect’ claims in his own divorce filings pertaining to where their children had been living over the past six months

‘Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup’, the statement read.
Turner’s lawyer also alleged that Jonas has made ‘incorrect’ claims in his own divorce filings pertaining to where their children had been living over the past six months.
The court documents read: ‘In his divorce filing in Florida, the Father seeks, inter alia, divorce, a parenting plan, and a timesharing schedule to be ordered by the Florida state court.

‘The Father incorrectly claims in his divorce filings that the children have resided in Florida for the six months prior to the filing of the Father’s Florida case.’
Turner broke down the exact living arrangements made by the family over the past year to prove her claim that their children had ‘had only stayed in the Miami property on three occasions, for a total of approximately 11 weeks’.
Over the past twelve months, the couple and their children had allegedly bounced around from property to property in New York, London, Miami, Las Vegas and Warwickshire, England.
The Do Revenge star explained that ‘throughout their marriage’ the couple has discussed their desire to raise their children in England.
‘During their time in England over Christmas 2022, the Mother and Father jointly decided that they would look for their “forever home” in England, select a school for their older daughter in England, and settle their family in England,’ the documents read. ‘The parties agreed that the timing was right for the family to settle permanently in England, particularly given the older child’s age. The parties were both excited for the family’s move to England.’
Turner’s lawyer claim the couple began searching for their ‘forever home’ in December 2022, with their hunt continuing through to July this year.
Her lawyers have claimed that ‘the parties found a beautiful country property in Henley on Thames, England, and both agreed they would purchase the property for the family’s permanent home.’
The couple had an alleged completion date of December 2, 2023 and had been looking forward ‘to spending their Christmas 2023 holiday with the children, family, and friends in their new home in England.’
She also alleged that many of their children’s personal belongings had been shipped to England in March.
Turner alleged that hitmaker Jonas won’t return their children’s passports to halt their return to the U.K.
‘On or about September 17, 2023, the parties met to discuss their separation,’ the petition reads.
‘The Mother reiterated the parties’ agreed plan for the children to return home to England that week. The Father has possession of the children’s passports. He refuses to return the passports to the Mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the Mother.’
Turner was recently pictured with Jonas’ famous ex Taylor Swift, 33, as they enjoyed a girls’ night out in New York City on Tuesday
However, Jonas has claimed that that less than 24 hours after meeting on Sunday, Turner advised that she wanted to ‘take the children permanently to the UK’ and demanded that the singer hand over their passports.
Jonas argued that doing so would be ‘in violation of the Florida Court order’.
Following news of their divorce, reports emerged that she ‘likes to party and he likes to stay at home.’
Various sources who claim to have ‘direct knowledge’ of the situation have briefed US gossip sites including TMZ that Joe was watching his children full-time while on tour – while Sophie filmed for new series Joan in the UK.
Turner then made headlines earlier this week when she stepped out for the girls’ night out with her ex-husband’s famous ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift, in New York City.
They were seen strolling arm-in-arm as they enjoyed a girls’ night out until 2am on Tuesday.
The Bad Blood hitmaker, 33, caught up with the 27-year-old actress as they enjoyed a lowkey dinner at Via Carota in the heart of the city.
Jonas has since denied Turner’s claims that he blindsided her with the divorce, and argues that their children will be raised in the U.S. because they are American citizens
Jonas has stated that handing over his children’s passports would be ‘in violation of the Florida Court order’ which bans their children from being relocated
Some fans online claimed the outing fed into the claims that Turner was more interested in partying than looking after her children, allegations that the actress has chosen not to dignify with a public response.
Instead, the actress hit back in court as the documents revealed her claim that ‘with some hesitation’, the pair had agreed for the children to be with their Father and a nanny in the month of August.
‘When the Father is on tour, although his evenings are busy performing, he has periods of the day to spend time with the children,’ the documents stated.
With some hesitation, the parties planned and agreed that it would be best for the children to travel with the Father and the family’s nanny to the United States for the month of August, with the Mother travelling to meet the family in the United States in September 2023.’
The decision was made so that the children would ‘be able to spend some time during the day with one of their parents until the Mother finished her filming commitments.’
Turner stressed that the agreement to have the children ‘moving around with the Father on tour was only going to be a temporary arrangement.’
The actress was allegedly meant to collect the children in New York on September 14 and return with them to England.
Jonas argued in his statement: ‘Joe is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also okay with the kids raised bother in the U.S. and the UK.
Jonas’ statement hinted that Turner’s filing was ‘a serious abuse of the legal system at worst’
‘The children were born in the U.S. and have spent the vast majority of their lives in the U.S. They are American citizens.’
As the reports emerged painting Jonas as a devoted father and Turner as a party animal, a series of columns defending the actress – and questioning why the musician was being praised for looking after his own children – appeared.
Jonas reiterated his claim that he did not approve of these reports in his statement as he concluded: ‘Joe has already disavowed any and all statements purportedly made on his behalf that were disparaging of Sophie.
‘They were made without his approval and are not consistent with his views. His wish is that Sophie reconsider her harsh legal position and move forward in a more constructive and private manner. His only concern is the well-being of his children’.
Turner – who has been busy filming the upcoming ITV drama Joan in Spain – tied the knot with Jonas in 2019 and they had appeared to be smitten until their shock split came to light.
Full statement from Joe Jonas:
‘After multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce. The Florida Court has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children. Sophie was served with this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago.
‘Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids. They have been with her since that meeting. Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup.
‘Less than 24 hours later, Sophie advised that she wanted to take the children permanently to the UK. Thereafter, she demanded via this filing that Joe hand over the children’s passports so that she could take them out of the country immediately. If he complies, Joe will be in violation of the Florida Court order.
‘Joe is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also okay with the kids being raised both in the U.S. and the UK. The children were born in the U.S. and have spent the vast majority of their lives in the U.S. They are American citizens.
‘This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending. When language like “abduction” is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst. The children were not abducted. After being in Joe’s care for the past three months at the agreement of both parties, the children are currently with their mother. Sophie is making this claim only to move the divorce proceedings to the UK and to remove the children from the U.S. permanently.
‘Joe has already disavowed any and all statements purportedly made on his behalf that were disparaging of Sophie. They were made without his approval and are not consistent with his views. His wish is that Sophie reconsider her harsh legal position and move forward in a more constructive and private manner. His only concern is the well-being of his children.’
