Stephen Colbert Delivers Brutal Beat-by-Beat Takedown of Ivanka Trump's Disastrous Interview

The “Late Show” host is stunned when Ivanka offers to elaborate on a subject by giving an even shorter answer than the first.

Stephen Colbert tore into Ivanka Trump for so many reasons on Thursday night after watching her widely mocked interview in which she called the Trump administration’s family seperation policy at the U.S.-Mexico border a "low point."

"She came admirably close to displaying empathy," the CBS late-night host began his takedown. "What does she mean ‘was a low point.’ It’s still happening. That’s like being inside your burning house and going, ‘You know when this chair I’m sitting in caught fire, that was a real wake-up call. Do you smell something?’"

Donald Trump’s administration failed to meet a federal judge’s deadline to reunite all children at the border with their parents. According to CNN, Commander Jonathan White of the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps said Tuesday at a Congressional hearing that 559 kids of the original 2,551 from separated families remain in custody.

Ivanka was speaking at an Axios News Shaper conversation on workforce development at the Newseum Thursday when she made the comments that immediately caught Twitter’s ire, considering she’s part of the administration that implemented the policy she’s criticizing. "I felt very strongly about that and I am very vehemently against family separation and the separation of parents and children," she said. "Immigration is incredibly complex as a topic. Illegal immigration is incredibly complicated."

Colbert mocked Ivanka’s concern by saying, "Ivanka assures us that her dad stealing children has given her the feels … Just imagine how upset she’ll be when the feds drag away Don Jr."

When Ivanka was asked if she agrees with her father that the press is the "enemy of the people," she laughed and said, "No, I do not … Are you looking for me to elaborate? No, I don’t."

The "Late Show" host continued his beat-by-beat takedown of Trump’s favorite daughter by pointing out her statement made zero sense. "Wait. He asked you to elaborate. ‘No, I don’t’ is actually shorter than saying, ‘No, I do not.’ Would you like me to elaborate on that? You didn’t."

Colbert also took issue with President Trump’s tweet about Ivanka’s interview.

"See, that clears it up," Colbert said. "Trump supporters, when you see the media at the next rally make sure you only violently threaten only a large percentage of them."

In another amusing moment of Ivanka’s viral interview, she struggled to come up with a "high point" of her time in the White House. She eventually named "getting out of Washington," which Colbert found hilarious.

"What a coincidence, that’s my high point of your job, too," he joked.

The comedian saved his best zinger for last, though. When Ivanka said passing the Republican tax reform bill was a high point, Colbert joked, "You helped Republicans pass tax reform the way my nephew helps me mow the lawn with his bubble mower. What did you do? What do you do?"
