The Succession ending you didn’t see: Jeremy Strong reveals the explosive show had a SHOCKING alternate finale… after he improvised his own take on Kendall’s demise
Succession star Jeremy Strong has revealed a shock alternate ending to the show, which concluded in spectacular style on Sunday.
The actor, who plays Kendall Roy on the show, spoke to Kara Swisher on the official Succession podcast about his improvisation of his character’s final scene, in which he attempted to jump into a river – unbeknownst to cast and crew.
Kendall had his dreams crushed when his sister Shiv betrayed him and blocked him becoming the CEO of their late father’s company Waystar Royco and in the wake of the betrayal he is seen sitting on a bench with his minder watching on.
Jeremy, who has spoken in the past about his method acting, revealed he actually climbed the railings to inch his way into the water before he was saved by Scott Nicholson’s character Colin, his minder who was previously his father’s driver.
He said: ‘I stood up and walked slowly to the barrier that was set up there and climbed over it. And I didn’t really know what I plan to do. And the actor playing Colin saw me and ran and stopped me from doing it.’

Pained: Kendall’s fury was born of his sister Shiv’s betrayal
Succession came to an epic conclusion on Sunday night with its 90-minute series finale, which has set social media ablaze with comments.
The series finale – entitled With Open Eyes – lead up to the important Waystar Royco board meeting, where the final vote on the merger with Lukas Matsson’s – played by Alexander Skarsgard – GoJo was held.
The episode’s many twists and turns, iconic moments and stand-out lines were so popular that topics like ‘Tom Wambsgans,’ ‘Kendall,’ ‘Jeremy Strong’ and ‘I AM THE ELDEST BOY’ were trending topics across Twitter on Sunday evening.
In Jeremy’s final scene, he is seen walking in the park with Colin walking in his wake – in scenes that echoed a previous moment featuring his father – before he settles on a bench and looks out at the water, leaving questions about his mindset.
And while it seemed the implication was that he may jump, Jeremy was tempted to make the conclusion himself by staging his own improv.

Agh! Despite his own intentions for the ending, he conceded Jesse’s ending was better
He said: ‘I looked at these waves. And it was so windy that day, and so cold. And there was some piece of metal clanging and it was this terrible sound…
‘And I sort of couldn’t bear it. I stood up and walked slowly to the barrier that was set up there and climbed over it. And I didn’t really know what I plan to do. And the actor playing Colin saw me and ran and stopped me from doing it.’
Despite his own intentions for the ending, he conceded Jesse’s ending was better.
Explosive: Shiv was the source of his woes thanks to her betrayal
He said: ‘I mean, I’m sure Jesse’s choice is better. And in a way I think you see the intentionality in the character. I mean, you said you felt like he was going to go in…
‘And I did. I tried to. It’s a completely tragic ending, from my perspective. I think that Jesse maybe intended that in the writing, this sense that Kendall has lost, but maybe he’s free..
‘And maybe he’s going to keep walking. I guess I felt with everything in my body that there is no coming back from this.’
Away from his improvisation, Brian Cox, who played Kendall’s late father Logan, spoke about Jeremy’s method acting and his dislike of the practice.
Chilling: The episode’s many twists and turns, iconic moments and stand-out lines were so popular that topics like ‘Tom Wambsgans,’ ‘Kendall,’ ‘Jeremy Strong’ and ‘I AM THE ELDEST BOY’ were trending topics across Twitter on Sunday evening
He said: ‘And there’s another American convention he despises – the Method acting his co-star Jeremy Strong – who plays Kendall Roy – is so fiercely committed to.
Cox loathes the practice and called it out in his 2021 memoir Putting the Rabbit in the Hat, writing that their is ‘a certain amount of pain at the root of Jeremy.’
He said: ‘It’s really a cultural clash. I don’t put up with all that American sh*t. I’m sorry. All that sort of ‘I think, therefore I feel.”
‘Just do the job. Don’t identify,’ he said referring to legendary Method actor Daniel Day Lewis. ‘He retired at the age of 55, and I’m going, ‘That’s when the roles become really interesting. You’ve retired just at the point when actually the roles get better!”

And he revealed something new: ‘Of course, Jeremy was Dan Day-Lewis’ assistant. So he’s learned all that stuff from Dan.’
For what it’s worth, Strong disagrees with Cox’s assessment that he’s in pain.
In a cover story for GQ, he admitted Cox has ‘earned the right to say whatever the fuck he wants,’ but said that it is his character Kendall is in pain, not he.
Cox responded to that by simply saying: ‘I’m glad he is not in pain personally.’
