SZA says she’s ‘speechless’ and ‘in shock’ after at least eight people died and hundreds were injured at Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival hours after she performed

SZA shared her ‘shock’ in the wake of a deadly incident at Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival in a tweet posted Saturday.

The 31-year-old singer–songwriter wrote that she was left ‘speechless’ and that she was ‘praying’ for those affected after at least eight people died and hundreds more were injured at the Houston festival during an apparent crowd surge.

The singer (born Solána Imani Rowe) had performed at the festival just hours before Scott’s headlining set when the chaotic scene took place.

‘Speechless about last night I’m actually in shock n don’t even know what to say,’ SZA tweeted.  ‘Just praying for everyone in Houston especially the families of those that lost their lives.’

Earlier on Friday, she revealed that she had been feeling sick prior to the performance and posted a photo of herself receiving an intravenous drip.

‘Houston I no feel so good but thank you for having meeee sorry I didn’t kick it w the crowd tnt,’ she wrote after her set.

In a follow-up tweet she said she had gotten a ‘bug’ but said Covid-19 tests came back negative.

Later on Saturday, SZA shared on Twitter that she was still planning on making her concert that night in Austin, Texas, despite still feeling sick.

‘I’m trying my best!!’ I wanna give y’all a great show tnt,’ she wrote before visiting a doctor.

She also shared her thanks and retweeted a photo of fans waiting outside the venue for her performance.

But her condition seemed to have deteriorated, and it was unclear if she would be able to make her show. 

‘Okay … it’s official I have a fever over 100 and I’m covid negative (took another test today),’ she tweeted. ‘Whatever it is I don’t wanna get y’all sick !! I love y’all too much. I was feeling better this morning but it’s kicking my a** rn. I’m so sorry Austin.’

During Travis Scott’s high-profile set at Astroworld, at least eight people were killed in an apparent crowd rush.

Two of the victims were under 18, with one as young as 14, city officials said in a new conference on Saturday.

Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña said that the surge of concertgoers ’caused some panic, and it started causing some injuries.’

The packed area was filled with around 50,000 attendees at the time.

Scott, who was spotted weeping after the tragedy, wrote that he was ‘absolutely devastated by what took place last night’ in a statement posted to Twitter on Friday.

He offered his ‘prayers’ to to families of the victims while pledging his ‘total support’ to the Houston Police Department.

In the wake of the chaos in the crowd, attendees initially shared photos and videos of people receiving CPR from medics, while other people were seen bleeding profusely. 

Although Scott briefly paused his set while one fan was helped by medical personnel, he resumed performing and continued after the incident, before the show was canceled later in the night.

A source told Page Six that the rapper ‘didn’t realize what was going on’ from his vantage, and ‘when he did he stopped the concert.’

‘He’s really upset — he had no idea what was going on, he was on stage performing,’ they added. ‘He’s beside himself, I’ve never heard him like that. He was in tears.’

Saturday’s lineup for Astroworld has also been canceled.
