TALK OF THE TOWN: Prince Charles ‘planned one-on-one dinner with Harry during his trip back to Britain to unveil Princess Diana statue’
Prince Harry was happy to reconnect with his old pals during a ‘lads’ lunch’ earlier this year – but mystery surrounds a secret summit he was due to have with his father to rebuild their strained relationship.
A source close to the Prince of Wales says Charles had planned a one-on-one dinner with Harry during his son’s trip back to Britain earlier this month, when Harry unveiled a statue of his late mother, Diana.
I’m told Charles – who was reportedly in Scotland while the ceremony took place at Kensington Palace – intended to travel back to London to thrash things out with Harry, following the fallout from the explosive interview the Duke and wife Meghan gave to Oprah Winfrey.

A nervous Charles was said to be ‘dreading’ the dinner – presumably in case he made some faux pas which could be misconstrued and repeated to the Duchess of Sussex back home in California.
But it remains unclear whether the dinner actually went ahead as planned, and an aide for Charles would not be drawn on the matter last night.
However, the suggestion that the pair were willing to forge a plan to meet suggests at least a little thawing in relations between Harry and the rest of the Royal Family.
Cressie’s little pup pops out
Cressida Bonas was always clever enough not to let the cat out of the bag when she started dating Prince Harry. Now she’s not letting the dog out of the papoose!
I spotted actress Cressie in Notting Hill last week with her beloved dachshund puppy Budgie Bear poking her nose out of her handbag.
I have been chronicling how Cressie, 32, who is now married to Harry Wentworth-Stanley, has fallen head over heels for the pup.
When she got her last month she said: ‘She’s a brown ball of love and cosiness, has the kindest of eyes, is brave as a lion, and we love her too much already.’

I hear of problems beneath the surface as Buckingham Palace reopens its gardens.
The Queen has always encouraged birds and wildlife, but nature’s delicate balance has gone awry… and herons have gobbled up all the fish in the ponds, leaving none for visitors to admire.
‘One day we hope to reintroduce fish but for now the herons rule,’ says my source.
Something tells me that if Prince Philip were still alive, he’d have taken a shotgun to them!
A £100million divorce has not deterred advertising tycoon Sir Martin Sorrell from finding love again.
Literary agent Caroline Michel has opened up about her relationship with Sir Martin, 76, who is said to be so smitten that he could even make her his third wife.
The pair were described as ‘close friends’ last year, and in April this year they were spotted dining together.
Now Caroline, 62, whose clients include Bear Grylls, tells me they are an item, adding: ‘It’s very early days. There’s a long way to go on these things.’

As the future Duchess of Roxburghe, Annie Green is about to be handed the keys to the 200-room Floors Castle.
But spare a thought for former chatelaine Virginia Wynn-Williams, who I hear now finds herself living in a humble rented cottage in Wiltshire – having vacated the stately home in Scotland after her husband’s death.
Virginia was married to the 10th Duke, Guy Innes-Ker, until his death in 2019, but now her stepson Charlie Bowmont is about to marry and take over the castle.
Life can be cruel for widows in toffland!
