The Conners star Michael Fishman EXITS the sitcom ahead of season 5

The Conners star Michael Fishman exits the Roseanne spin-off ahead of season five… after 14 YEARS of playing D.J. Conner

Former child star Michael Fishman has concluded his 14-year legacy role as David Jacob ‘D.J.’ Conner in The Conners just weeks ahead of the fifth season premiere that airs on September 21.

The first hint that something was amiss was last week when ABC unveiled the season five poster, which excluded the 40-year-old SoCal native.

TVLine reported on Monday that ‘the door has been left open for the character’s return’ but there are no current plans to bring back Michael, who only appeared in 36 of the Roseanne spin-off’s 71 episodes.

Farewell! Former child star Michael Fishman has concluded his 14-year legacy role as David Jacob ‘D.J.’ Conner in The Conners just eight days before the fifth season premiere airs on September 21 (pictured Friday)

Fishman – who directed five episodes – made his final appearance as D.J. on the May 18th episode titled ‘A Judge and a Priest Walk Into a Living Room…’ of Bruce Helford’s critically-acclaimed show.

‘@theconnersabc season finale airs tonight,’ the Fish’s Call Sheet producer-host wistfully wrote at the time.

‘I would like to honor all those who make production possible. This is most of our amazing team.’

Michael was famously only six when he took over the part of Roseanne and Dan Conner’s rambunctious son from Sal Barone in the original ABC sitcom, which aired for 10 seasons before the 2018 revival.

A week ago, Lionsgate’s Grindstone Entertainment Group acquired the North American distribution rights to Nicole Mejia’s feature directorial debut A Place in the Field, which Fishman produced.

The Mclusive Media CEO – who boasts 122K social media followers – gushed on Instagram: ‘I am so proud to be part of this amazing team to help produce this film!’

Michael might also want to spend more quality time with his three children – daughter Isabelle, son Aaron, and daughter Camille – following the 2020 overdose death of his son Larry.

Fishman also keeps busy working as the CEO of his environmental charity Altruistic Acres and the chair of his social outreach charity WeComend.
