Meanwhile, Poodle tried to win them over by singing Clean Bandit’s track Symphony.
Speaking after being unmasked, Pat apologised to Scots for his Scottish accent he’d put on during the show and explained he had ‘Scottish blood’.
He also stated that after having previously been in a rock band, he ‘liked the idea’ of focussing on himself, but admitted that performing on The Masked Singer was just as ‘nerve-wracking’ as taking part in the Wimbledon tennis tournament.
On why he wanted to take part, the Australian former tennis player said in an interview: ‘I’ve always been a frustrated rock star and fancied doing the Masked Singer from the first day I saw it.

‘I just thought it would be so much fun to rock out, although I prefer to hide behind a guitar instead of a sweaty mask. It was a great experience overall.
‘As luck would have it, my schedule cleared. I’m a big believer in letting your higher power take over and I suppose it meant I was able to take part in the show.’
On whether it was hard to keep his identity a secret, he said: ‘Not very, I’m a pretty private person anyway and never feel comfortable about people knowing what I’m up to, I don’t know what I’m up to half of the time so to sneak away and get some great singing tips and do the show was pretty easy.’
Detailing his nerves and on whether his costume made him feel more confident, he added: ‘I liked being hidden. I wasn’t that nervous on the first song but my last song was a torment! I couldn’t get the lyrics to “I only wanna be with you”.

‘My sister who is an opera singer has the real voice in the family and as a kid she used to love the Bay City Rollers and sang it around the house. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun song and fun to sing but I was listening to Iron Maiden, Judas Priest or AC/DC in those days.
‘Maybe it was my subconscious saying, “Don’t do it.” As luck would have it, it all came together just in the nick of time but only just.’
Pat was a successful tennis player and won the men’s singles championship at Wimbledon in 1987.
There, he famously climbed through the stands to greet his loved ones, a tradition that has since been followed by subsequent winners of the tournament.
Traffic Cone, Panda and Rockhopper meanwhile sailed through to the next round after earning the most votes from the audience.

After the audience vote, the characters revealed to be going through to the next week were Traffic Cone, Panda and Rockhopper, leaving Poodle and Bagpipes to face the sing-off.
Saturday’s Love special featured showstopping performances from Traffic Cone, Panda, Rockhopper, Poodle and Bagpipes.
The group kicked off the show with a performance of Backstreet Boys’ classic hit I Want It That Way, before Poodle then took to the stage to sing What’s New Pussycat? by Tom Jones.
Up next was Rockhopper, who wowed the judges with their performance of Amy Winehouse’s Love Is A Losing Game.

Bagpipes meanwhile rocked the stage with an energetic performance of Wheatus track Teenage Dirtbag.
Traffic Cone then brought the emotion to the stage with a heartwarming rendition of When She Loved Me Sarah McLachlan.
While finishing things off was Panda, who turned up the heat by belting out Donna Summer’s disco hit Hot Stuff.

The ITV singing competition is back for a third series with Davina McCall, Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan and Jonathan Ross returning to the judging chairs while Joel Dommett is back as host.
Last month it was revealed that both Davina and Rita had people they know take part in the show.
Speaking to MailOnline, Davina and Joel revealed someone Rita knows ‘quite personally’ was among the contestants while Davina found it ‘weird’ to see someone she knew, but neither of them correctly guessed their friends identities.

Davina said: ‘What might be a massive name for Mo might not be a massive name for me and vice versa.
‘There’s a big name for me, there’s a big name for Mo. He couldn’t believe it. There was someone I know, that was quite weird.’
Ahead of the show launch, Joel, 36, gushed this is the ‘best series yet.’

Beary-good: While finishing things off was Panda, who turned up the heat by belting out Donna Summer’s disco hit Hot Stuff
‘Having an audience has really changed everything. The energy in the studio has stepped up a notch and having full families in front of you enjoying it in the same way they enjoy it in their lounge is super important. It’s made it the best series yet,’ he said.
Of getting quizzed on who’s who, Joel quipped: ‘I get asked all the time, “who’s sausage then?” I just have to run away. Basically, when the show is on television I just hide in my house. It’s not worth going out.’
Stand-up comedian Mo, 33, explained how the celebrities are upping their game.
The Masked Singer 2022: Will Young was the third celebrity to be eliminated from the nation’s favourite guessing game last Saturday after being revealed as Lionfish
‘I think what it is now is that people have seen the show so they’re trying to change the way they speak, they might put an accent on to throw us off. They’re even changing the way they sing now.
‘People are really upping their game to not be sussed out so soon.’
The show’s inclusivity is what makes it so widely watched, presenter Davina, 54, believes.
First out: Heather Small was the first celebrity to be unveiled after hiding in a chandelier costume
There she is: Snow Leopard was unmasked as the show’s oldest ever contestant, Gloria Hunniford
‘I don’t know any other show that’s as inclusive as this show and I don’t think any of us expected it to be like that when it started but that’s just how it turned out. I mean there’s something in it for everyone, it’s just really one great big game of guess who. It’s just so fun.’
Pop star Rita, 31, enjoys the element of ‘going in blind.’
‘I tend to try and remind myself of names and things, just to refresh my brain but there is no real way of setting yourself up because it could be anybody. It’s fun going in blind actually,’ she said.
Veteran broadcaster and presenter Jonathan, 61, gave the low-down on the competition between the panel.
‘It’s quite hot in some ways. We all pretend it doesn’t matter. Rita’s the one who wants to really win this series, she won the last two, I think she feels going for the hat trick is a prize worth getting. So far, I think she’s doing the worst out of all of us and that’s quite delightful.
‘I think I’m doing the best at the moment against all odds, but that won’t last.’
The Masked Singer premiered on ITV on January 1 and continues Saturday nights at 7pm.
