The Spice Girls ‘are invited to reunite for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert by BBC bosses – after plans for future gigs were shelved following their 2019 tour’

The Spice Girls have reportedly been invited to reunite for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert by BBC bosses.

According to The Sun, the decision is ‘now in the hands of the girls’, including Geri Horner, 49, Melanie Chisholm, 48, Victoria Beckham, 47, Melanie Brown, 46, and Emma Bunton, 46, after being sent the offer by BBC bosses.

BBC will stage and broadcast a special live concert from Buckingham Palace on June 4 to celebrate The Queen’s seven decade reign.

It would be the first time all five singers have performed on stage since the closing ceremony of the London Olympics in 2012, after Victoria declined the chance to rejoin the band for their 2019 reunion tour.

‘BBC bosses are determined to put on a show to remember and what band is more iconic than the Spice Girls,’ a source said.

‘The invitation has been made and it’s now in the hands of the girls.

‘It’s no secret they regret turning down a similar opportunity for the Diamond Jubilee and they all have a deep respect for the Royal Family and the Queen.’

MailOnline has approached the BBC and a representative for the Spice Girls for comment.

It comes after the Spice Girls reportedly shelved plans for more future gigs and an animated movie after their sold out Spice World – 2019 Tour.

Hints had been dropped by the girls that they were set to take to the stage once again with a world tour in the near future.

But the pandemic is said to have put the brakes on the proposals, with an insider telling The Sun: ‘It was going brilliant — but Covid killed the momentum.

‘Now it’s done again. There’s nothing on the agenda and they’re focusing on their own things.’

They added: ‘A few years of lockdown and everyone’s back has turned on the group in favour of other projects.

‘Geri is talking about new TV things, Emma has TV and radio work and the two Mel’s are focusing on their own stuff.

‘Victoria certainly isn’t going to be the one to bring it back to life — so it has fizzled out. They’re done.’
