Star of BET show Baldwin Hill, actor Ashley Taylor Gerren died in her sleep at 4:30 a.m. on April 11, 2021, according to Essence. Known professionally as Gerren Taylor, she was 30 years old at the time of her death. As of this writing, her cause of death is unknown, however, the outlet revealed she was previously diagnosed with autoimmune disease lupus and was reportedly on dialysis.
In the wake of her death, one of the first people to publicly mourn their loss was Love and Hip-Hop star Ray Cunningham, who took to Twitter writing, “Just got the worst news. I hate it’s on the internet already. RIP to my @BET fam, my babes Gerren (Baldwin Hills).” He later elaborated on their friendship in a touching Instagram tribute. “Just got the worst news ever and I’m still not processing it fully,” he began to write on a video of the two. “I’ve known @mstaylorxo since 2006, the #BaldwinHills cast was like the little sisters and brothers to #CollegeHill [heart emoji] I was sneaking her into parties with me [crying laughing emoji] She was one of the first people to reach out to me when I shared my alopecia diagnosis and she shared hers with me. I [heart emoji] [you]. You will be missed. BET fam [praying hands emoji] [heart emoji] Rest well love.”

Fans are mourning her loss
Taylor Gerren was just getting started in life prior to her untimely death. The 30-year-old is survived by her 7-year-old daughter, Miyoko Amor, who was definitely the apple of her eye. She last posted about her baby girl on Instagram in June 2020, thanking family and friends for wishing the tot a happy birthday. Prior to that, she often posted photos of sweet moments with the little girl, including a photo of them holding hands in March 2020 with the caption, “mommy duties.”
Aside from her life as a mom, she had an accomplished career starting at the age of 12 when she was discovered by a talent scout and was signed to LA Models, per Essense. She was the youngest model ever signed to the agency’s runway division. She was later featured in the 2007 documentary America Is Beautiful, about self-image and beauty standards in this country. She is most recognized for her work on BET’s Baldwin Hills, a reality show airing from 2007 until 2009 about the lifestyles of the teens growing up in the Los Angeles, Calif., neighborhood.
In the wake of her death, fans are remembering the legacy she left behind. “RIP Gerren Taylor another fallen angel. I used to live for her on Baldwin Hills! An IT girl,” one person tweeted. “Gerren Taylor was really that girl,” another person added. “I grew up seeing her on Teen Vogue covers and starring in Baldwin Hills. May she rest peacefully.”
