Back for more: Timothy Olyphant is making a return to his Justified show with the reboot Justified: City Primeval. The limited series will again feature the 53-year-old actor as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens
The limited series was teased in March 2021 but was only recently greenlit by FX.
It picks up eight years after the U.S. Marshall left Kentucky and headed for Miami. He is now balancing his work life and being a father to a 14-year-old girl.
According to Deadline, ‘A chance encounter on a Florida highway sends him to Detroit and he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent sociopath who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and wants to do so again.’
The Gone in 60 Seconds star will executive produce in addition to being the male lead star in the limited series.
The past: It has been seven years since the original show – which also starred Natalie Zea (pictured), Walton Goggins, Margot Martindale and Jacob Pitts – went off the air.
It is not yet known if any of the other cast members such as Zea or Goggins will have guest starring roles.
But considering Zea played Raylan’s ex Winona, whom he shares that 14-year-old child with, it is likely she will pop up as a guest star. Zea is currently starring on the hit NBC series LaBrea.
Eric Schrier, President of FX Entertainment, gave a statement regarding the adaption based on Eleanor Leonard’s novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit.
‘Justified was one of the most critically acclaimed shows of the past decade and an adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s work that was so colorfully brought to life by Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens, Graham Yost and the entire team of producers, writers, directors and cast,’ the president shared.
Will she return? It is not yet known if any of the other cast members such as Zea (pictured right) will have guest starring roles but considering the show is about him raising his 14-year-old daughter, the Texas native may have a guest starring role
Eight Emmy nominations: Justified had a total of six seasons, beginning in 2010 and ending in 2015. The hit show landed eight Emmy nominations throughout the six seasons, including one for Timothy for best actor in a drama in 2011
He added: ‘To have this group come together again with Tim as Raylan in a new and different Elmore Leonard story is thrilling.
‘I want to thank our showrunners Dave and Michael, and their fellow executive producers Tim, Graham, Sarah and Carl, the Elmore Leonard estate as well as our partners at Sony Pictures Television, for making this possible.’
