Piers sensationally quit the breakfast show following his comments about Meghan Markle’s Oprah interview and subsequent onscreen clash with co-star Alex Beresford back in March.
But it seemed his dramatic departure didn’t stop him being honoured for his tireless presenting during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, beating out both Susanna and Huw Edwards to scoop the coveted prize.

Piers looked dapper in a black suit, crisp white shirt and black shoes as he larked around with his friends on the red carpet ahead of the awards show, throwing his arms around both Susanna and Kate to prove there are no hard feelings between the trio.
Getting in on the reunion was Ben Shephard, who also joined them on the red carpet.
Ben remains the main male anchor on GMB while Piers still is yet to be replaced with a full-time Monday-Wednesday anchor.

Having a laugh: Piers pulled a funny pout for the camera alongside the two women
Ben looked smart in an eggplant-hued suit over a crisp white open-collar shirt with a silver pocket square, while Piers went for a classic back suit.
Piers stormed off GMB in March as he discussed the Harry and Meghan interview, where he expressed his belief that Meghan was lying during the chat with Oprah Winfrey and that the couple damaged the royal family’s reputation.
The outspoken host left the daytime series after he insisted he ‘didn’t believe a word’ of Meghan’s account of suffering suicidal thoughts and experiencing racism at the hands of the royal family.
Piers then walked off set after a fierce debate with Alex, in which the weather presenter accused Piers of unfairly ‘trashing’ Meghan, and branded him ‘diabolical’.

When Piers walked off screen, Alex continued: ‘I’m sorry but Piers just spouts off on a regular basis and we have to sit there and listen.’
Piers, who refused to apologise, later announced his resignation and tweeted his thanks to the GMB team, praising them for their ‘hard work and dedication’ that led to them beating their main breakfast TV rival.
And Piers shared his own reflections on the events of that fateful week in a piece for the Mail On Sunday shortly afterwards.
Fun: Susanna – who looked incredible in a red cocktail dress – looked like she was having a great time chatting to Piers
Piers called Alex ‘GMB’s occasional stand-in weatherman’ and ‘uptight’ in the telling account, adding that the presenter hasn’t messaged him since his exit unlike others on the show.
Reflecting on their now infamous encounter on GMB, which ended in Piers leaving the studio, Piers said he wasn’t going to sit there and be ‘whacked’ by one of his own team.
Pier’s comments about the Duchess of Sussex’s interview led to the highest number of complaints in Ofcom’s history.
The Duchess of Sussex also made a formal complaint to Ofcom about Piers after he dismissed her account of suffering suicidal thoughts and experiencing racism at the hands of the royal family.
Dynamic duo: Susanna beamed as she stood beside Piers in her red dress and sparkly silver shoes
Autumn chic: Liberty – who appeared in this summer’s series of Love Island – still rocked a tan as she posed for snaps in a black lace strap-top and chocolate slacks. She matched the look with a blazer, which she wore over her shoulders for snaps
Following her own reunion with Piers, Kate was honoured with a Special Award for her tireless broadcasting work while her husband Derek Draper’s continues to recover from a year-long battle with coronavirus.
It comes just days after the star won Best Authored Documentary at the National Television Awards, while offered viewers a harrowing glimpse of Derek’s battle with the virus.
Kate – who has children Darcey, 15, and William, 12, with Derek, 54 – has since revealed that she hopes to make a follow-up to the show.
She told The Sun: ‘We are going to make another documentary, there are plans for more. Derek has a very short window of energy, but we are trying. He has been home for four months now and it was enough for him being home. Now we are really hoping we can have more and more people in to see him.’
Also among this year’s winners was Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly who were given the award for TV Personality, beating This Morning’s Alison Hammond and Bradley Walsh.
Following it’s hard-hitting storyline depicting Yasmeen Nazir’s horrific abuse by her controlling husband Geoff Matcalfe, Coronation Street was awarded the prize for Soap Of The Year, whie star Shelley King was given the award for Soap Actor.
Gogglebox scooped the award for Entertainment, while racy period series Bridgerton scooped New Drama.

The TRIC Awards 2021 kicked off on Wednesday afternoon at 8 Northumberland Avenue in London – with Love Island’s Liberty Poole leading the glamour on the red carpet.
Liberty – who appeared in this summer’s series of the ITV2 show – still rocked a golden tan as she posed for snaps in a black lace strap-top and chocolate slacks.
She matched the look with a blazer, which she removed and slung over one shoulder for snaps.
Liberty wore amber-hued strap heels and accessorised with gold jewelry. She swept her golden locks back from her features and made a statement with bright red lipstick and a thick sweep of mascara on her lashes.
Liberty was among the early arrivals, along with Good Morning Britain co-anchors Kate and Susanna who looked stunning in cocktail dresses for the event.
Kate – who can’t move for an awards ceremony at the moment, momentously scooping the National Television Award last week for her documentary Finding Derek, about her husband’s battle with COVID-19 – wore a flowing white wrap-dress with delicate sleeves and a floor-length skirt.
Her GMB colleague Susanna wore a figure-hugging red dress with silver heels and wore her dark locks loosely around her shoulders.
