‘I did it!’: Love Island star Wes Nelson says it’s ‘fine’ to have sex in the villa as he reveals his steamy on-screen romps didn’t affect his post-show career
Love Island’s Wes Nelson has said it’s ‘fine’ for Love Islanders to have sex in the villa as he doesn’t believe his on-screen romps had a negative impact on his post-show career.
The reality star, 23, who has become a millionaire since starring on the show in 2018, got hot under the covers with Laura Anderson and Megan Barton Hanson during his time on the ITV2 series.
And speaking to FUBAR Radio on Thursday ahead of the imminent launch of Love Island, Wes said he disagreed with others who have advised contestants not to have sex on camera.

Wes famously coined the phrase ‘doing bits’ whilst on the show, referencing the naughty things some of the contestant got up to.
Wes said: ‘I did it and I was fine! This is the thing. People can say, ‘Don’t do this. Don’t do that!’ There are no dos or don’ts. Just do you. It’s literally that simple.’
‘Like people sometimes think, they get it confused with, “Oh, I can go on Love Island and get this career after, and this, that and the other.”

‘And nine times out of ten, they’re the people that come out within a week because they’ve got this game plan and people see straight through it.’
Speaking to Stephen Leng on Access All Areas, he reflected on his journey since leaving the villa, which included a relationship with Megan and fellow Love Islander Arabella Chi.
When asked how he found going from an everyman to someone that people follow and look up to, he said: ‘I’m still just a bloke from Stoke. I’m still just a simple man from Stoke.
‘I think for me, I’ve just taken everything in my stride. I think circumstances have changed, but I haven’t. And it’s good to keep things that way, to stay true to who you are.’
The former nuclear engineer released his second single ‘Nice To Meet Ya’ earlier this year, after the huge success of his debut, ‘See Nobody’, which peaked at number three in the UK charts.

He explained how he wanted to do music for his ‘entire life’, but didn’t go into the Love Island villa to boost his career.
He added: ‘Anyone who knows me knows I don’t stop singing. I’ve never not got a pen in my hand trying to write something. So, for me, to embark on this journey now, it’s been quality.’
Overwhelmed by the success he’s garnered so far, the former reality TV star explained: ‘This past year for me has been absolutely phenomenal doing the music. It has genuinely been a lifelong dream, and to get the recognition that it’s getting, it just blows my mind.’
When asked what his highlight of the past few years has been, he said: ‘It’s not a plaque, it’s not a particular moment.
‘It’s just the fact that I’m living what I wanted to do. And this is my dream career. So I’m happy. That’s my highlight.’
Dating: Wes famously dated former exotic dancer Megan after reaching the quarter-finals of Love Island together in 2018

It was announced yesterday that the new series of Love Island will start on Monday 28th June, with host Laura Whitmore returning after making her debut on the show last year.
The star claims his success off the back of the show is because ‘I was actually honest,’ adding: ‘I didn’t go in with a game plan. I went in for what it is, which is fun.’
He said: ‘Just go on there, have fun! If something comes of it, something comes of it. If you meet someone, you meet someone and if you don’t, you don’t.
But I think just go on it and have fun and be unapologetically yourself. And people will start to like you.’
Wes – who is involved in a new campaign with Dott scooters – exclusively told MailOnline that he will no longer entertain romances publicly, and also gave some advice to the new crop of Islanders who will find fame on the ITV2 series.
He explained: ‘I’ve made the discovery that being so open and honest with relationships online didn’t help with my mental health.
‘And it didn’t help with the relationships health. So for me, I keep everything private. I like to keep it to myself.’

Wes famously dated former exotic dancer Megan after reaching the quarter-finals of Love Island together in 2018.
However, the pair were involved in a bitter split the following January, shortly after Megan a Instagram story accusing his Dancing On Ice partner Vanessa of being cold towards her.
What followed was an outlandish war of words over the custody of their pet hamster Jon Snow, with Megan being accused of ‘kidnapping’ the furry critter after vowing they would ‘co-parent’.
After moving on from hamster-gate, Wes then struck up a romance with model and fellow Islander Arabella, 29, but they split in April 2020 after nine months of dating.
He was last linked to model Lucciana Beynon, the daughter of millionaire tobacco tycoon Travers Beynon, after they were said to be ‘growing close’ in March this year.
Despite making a vow to keep his own romances out of the spotlight, Wes insisted that he has no regrets over his time on Love Island and encouraged others to apply.
As the show is set to return this month after going on hiatus for the year during the pandemic, Wes offered some advice to the new Islanders.
He mused: ‘It sounds so plain and generic but be unapologetically yourself. People have an idea of how they should be, or Islanders they’ve seen and they try and replicate that, but the show highlights people who are playing games.
‘People respect people who are unapologetic with their decisions. Take a leaf out of my book and go for it, the public will forgive you.’
