Willow Smith, 20, officially comes out as polyamorous

Willow Smith, 20, officially comes out as polyamorous but admits she can’t see herself ‘going past two partners’

  • The 20-year-old daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith revealed the news on Wednesday’s Red Table Talk
  • Polygamy is the practice of engaging in multiple romantic, and typically sexual relationships, with the consent of all the people involved
  • Willow noted that she could not see herself ‘going past two partners’
  • The performer previously revealed that she was bisexual and polyfidelitous (a form of non-monogamy)
  • In July last year, Willow’s mother Jada, 49, admitted to having an affair with 27-year-old singer August Alsina while still married to husband Will

Willow Smith has come out as polyamorous.

The daughter of movie stars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith revealed the news on Wednesday during a discussion with her mother and grandmother, but noted that she can’t see herself ‘going past two partners.’

‘With polyamory, I feel like the main foundation is the freedom to be able to create a relationship style that works for you and not just stepping into monogamy because that’s what everyone around you says is the right thing to do,’ the 20-year-old said on Red Table Talk.

‘So I was like, how can I structure the way that I approach relationships with that in mind? Also, doing research into polyamory, the main reasons why monogamous relationships – or why marriage – why divorces happen is infidelity.’

FYI: On Wednesday, Daytime Emmy Award nominee Willow Smith (M) officially came out as polyamorous, but noted that she can’t see herself ‘going past two partners’

Willow – who practices ethical non-monogamy – could not convince her grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Norris: ‘For somebody like me, it feels like it’s really all just centered around sex.’

Smith then gave her ‘Gammy’ an example of a couple who might have opposite appetites for sex.

‘Are you gonna be the person to say, you know, “Just because I don’t have these needs, you can’t have them either?”‘ the Rise songstress explained.

‘And so that’s kind of one of the reasons why I actually was interested in poly because I was introduced to it through kind of a nonsexual lens. In my friend group, I’m the only polyamorous person, and I have the least sex out of all of my friends.’

Willow – who said the ‘history of marriage really irks me’ – found a more open, compassionate listener in her mother Jada Pinkett Smith.

‘I’m okay with whatever you do,’ the 49-year-old Matrix 4 action star shrugged.

‘When you were like, “Hey, this is my get down.” I was like, “I totally get it.” Wanting to set up your life in a way that you can have what it is that you want, I think anything goes as long as the intentions are clear.’

Smith’s ‘coming out’ was hardly a revelation considering she already confessed she was bisexual and polyfidelitous two years ago on her weekly Facebook Watch series.

‘I would definitely want one man and one woman’: Smith’s ‘coming out’ was hardly a revelation considering she already confessed she was bisexual and polyfidelitous two years ago on her weekly Facebook Watch series

‘I love men and women equally and so I would definitely want one man, one woman,’ the Calabasas native said at the time.

‘I feel like I could be polyfidelitous with those two people. I’m not the kind of person that is constantly looking for new sexual experiences. I focus a lot on the emotional connection and I feel like if I were to find two people of the different genders that I really connected with and we had a romantic and sexual connection, I don’t feel like I would feel the need to try to go find more.’

Since 2017, Willow has been in what appears to be a monogamous relationship with Tyler Cole, whom she met through her big brother Jaden.

In fact, the 22-year-old Family Reunion actor produced Smith’s brand new pop-punk single Transparent Soul featuring Grammy nominee Travis Barker on drums.

If Jada seemed more understanding it might have had something to do with her 2016 affair with then 23-year-old singer August Alsina, which she described as an ‘entanglement.’

‘I just wanted to feel good, It had been so long since I felt good,’ Smith told her husband Will Smith on the July 10th episode of Red Table Talk.

‘Through that particular journey, I learned so much about myself and was able to really confront a lot of emotional immaturity, emotional insecurity and I was really able to do some really deep healing.

‘And as I came through and started to realize certain things about you and I, he decided to break all communication with me which was totally understandable. And I let that be and hadn’t talked to him since.’
