Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott purchased their ‘dream home’ in LA and are in the midst of renovations as he says it’s ‘where we’ll see the kids grow up’
They’ve been in the process of renovating their ‘dream home’ after purchasing a sprawling Los Angeles abode in June 2020.
And Zooey Deschanel is reveling in the design process with her boyfriend Jonathan Scott, nearly two years after the couple first met while filming Carpool Karaoke.
Scott, one half of the famed HGTV Property Brothers duo, admitted that he knew Zooey was the ‘yin to my yang’ only ‘eight months into our relationship,’ and is excited to be creating a home ‘where we’ll see the kids grow up.’

‘We were on parallel paths toward the happiness we’d been seeking our whole lives,’ Scott said in the new issue of Drew + Jonathan Reveal. ‘Zooey and I met for the first time in 2019, shooting that most romantic of television shows: Carpool Karaoke. I obviously knew about her, but the on-screen experience isn’t the same thing as in real life.
‘From the first moment she walked over to say hello, she had a bounce in her step and an energy about her that made me immediately take notice.’
Jonathan was living in Las Vegas while Zooey in LA with her two children from a previous marriage, son Charlie Wolf, four, and daughter, Elsie Otter, five, when they began house hunting.

‘As we pulled up the drive, it just seemed…magical,’ Jonathan recalled of the Georgian-style house designed in 1938 by California architect Gerard Colcord.
‘It sat on a little over an acre, and with its lush lawn and massive California sycamores, it looked like a park. Which is why when we first brought the kids by the property, they dubbed it the Park House.’
Knowing fully well that anything can happen on renovations having worked on more than 500 homes, Jonathan was prepared to pivot.

‘This dream home would become the largest residential renovation I had ever done in my career,’ he said.
The pandemic and a host of other delays — including permit issues and the supply chain demands — wreaked havoc on the renovations, but the couple remained unfazed.
‘We have each other, and we have time — the rest of our lives together in this house,’ he said. ‘Our house. Our dream home, where we’ll see the kids grow up laughing and adventuring in the yard, where we’ll play host to friends and family.’
