Even with creative director Matthew M. Williams devoting his time to Givenchy, 1017 ALYX 9SM still has ample energy to deliver its co-ed Spring/Summer 2021 collection. Informed primarily by trim tailoring and stylized iterations of the brand’s signature items, the new offering’s crown jewel are various layering piece elevated by countless minute metal studs.
Those semiluna studs number at least 12,000 on each garment and require an Italian artisan to spend six days applying them by hand; a similarly time-consuming regimen informs a pair of stud- and embroidery-laden trousrs, covered in a tonal stitch that itself demands three days of work.
This crafty acumen informs much of the collection, which ranges from suits tailored by master manufacturer Caruso to a python-patterned leather set painstakingly laid-out to create a seamless transition between the matching blazer, pants and shoes. Elsewhere, Chain-linked tote bags are accompanied by 1017 ALYX 9SM’s new leather water bottle holder, as much an updated, luxurious classic as the rest of the collection.
Expect 1017 ALYX 9SM’s new wares to arrive at stockists like HBX and SSENSE early next year.
Tailoring is similarly deconstructed in OAMC’s own SS21 offering.
