Gemma Collins' psychic saw ‘hundreds of angels’ during near-death experience while giving birth on Christmas Day

KATIE Helliwell says she has been able to see ghosts since she was a child.

But she kept her supernatural gift a secret after a backlash from her strict Irish Catholic family.

It wasn’t until she had a near-death experience during childbirth at the age of 23 that she decided to harness her powers.

The mum-of-three, from Birmingham, is now a psychic to the stars, including Kerry Katona, Gemma Collins and Danielle Lloyd.

“Spirits would come into my bedroom when I was asleep and sit at the end of my bed,” the 38-year-old told Fabulous Digital.

“When I was three I used to see the lady that lived in our house, she was lovely and really kind. I was seven when I realised nobody else could see them. That’s when the fear crept in, I started to realise I was different.”

Katie went to mass every week and would buy crucifixes and Holy Water to put around her bed to ward off the ghosts.

“I’d be lying in a wet bed, hoping with all the protection I would be OK. But they still came, there was no filter for me,” she said. “I spent a lot of time crying and being really upset.

“We lived next door to a vicar who came round and blessed the house. My mum said ‘can you just tell her everything she’s seeing is not real?’”

Afraid of the stigma, Katie kept her powers concealed. Then, at the age of 23, she had a glimpse of the afterlife on Christmas Day while giving birth to her eldest daughter Jessica, now 15.

Katie almost haemorrhaged to death after having a placental abruption during her pregnancy.

“I was on the ward, it was Christmas Eve, and I’d been induced. My husband Matt (41) was there. I thought my waters had gone but then I looked down and there was blood everywhere,” she said.

“He rushed to get a midwife and I remember seeing clouds. It was scary.

"I could see figures and shapes, I could hear noises, but I didn’t really know what was going on. I looked up and I could see hundreds of spirits in the delivery room.

“I panicked and thought ‘my baby’s going to die’. It didn’t occur to me it would be me who was dying.”

Katie’s daughter was born, but she continued to bleed. She was rushed to intensive care but had an overwhelming sense of peace.

“Loads of alarms were going off but I remember feeling really peaceful, really calm,” she said. “I remember thinking if I was dying then I was happy. I just drifted off.

“I think I don’t really have a fear of dying now, because it was so peaceful and so serene and just so beautiful. There were so many spirits around me that I knew I was going to be OK.”

Katie recovered and decided to use her contact with the spirits to do readings. She said: “It made me realise it was time to make a difference. I knew I had to use my gift.”

Katie – who is also mum to Lucy, 12, and Lily, nine – worked as a PA, but started doing readings in the evenings for friends of friends.

After telling a colleague in network marketing about her gift in September 2017, Katie agreed to do a reading with her over Skype – because she lived miles away in Essex.

The unnamed woman was impressed, and took to Twitter to rave about Katie’s talents.

Soon her phone was ringing off the hook, and she quit her job to focus on being a medium.

She said: “It’s all really mind-blowing. I’m just me, I’m just an ordinary mum and somebody with a dream who wanted to help people.

“I think that’s probably what makes me different. I come with a loving heart and try to spread the message that spiritualism isn’t terrifying, seeing spirits isn’t scary.

“Because that’s why I was hidden in my bedroom for so long crying, I thought spirits were weird and scary, when in actual fact they’re beautiful.”

Katie says it was the spirits who advised her to reach out to her celeb clients.

Back in August, Kerry revealed Katie predicted she's going to get married for a fourth time – and have baby number six.

Katie said: “I’ve read for Kerry Katona, she’s lovely, one of the kindest people, a lovely soul. Gemma Collins, she’s lovely as well, very funny.

“Danielle Lloyd, she was my first celebrity client and she’s been absolutely golden. She’s become a friend.

“I’m a great believer that when you see a white feather it’s a sign that your loved ones are with you.

“I ask the spirit to send everyone a white feather to show they’re looking after them and they’re around.

“Danielle was emptying one of her boy’s book bags after our reading and there was a big white feather in there.

“She sent me a message saying ‘how on Earth did this happen? I’m absolutely blown away’ and I said ‘they knew you’d look in the bag’.

“People have found them in their kitchen cupboards when they’ve gone to make toast in the morning, they are in the most bizarre places.

Katie remained tight-lipped on Gemma’s relationship with fellow TOWIE star Arg, but did reveal: “Love is the one topic all my clients want to know about.

“They send me pictures of potential people and they’ll say ‘do you think he’s marriage material?’ It’s quite funny.”
