When we think of Burberry, we often think of sweeping, belted trench coats; wooden-handle umbrellas; and misty London mornings. We think of cool, young rock stars outfitted in classic but tailored ensembles staring at a camera lens with haughty detachment. Sun, sand, and hitting the waves, however, is not usually top of mind.
The new TB Summer Monogram Collection, designed by chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci, however, is all about “embodying the free spirit and optimism of summer,” according to a press release. So in other words, surf’s up?
The Thomas Burberry Monogram Collection, launched in May 2019, features signature interlocking TB initials. For the summer collection, Tisci ran with a beach-ready take, releasing items like hats, beach dresses, and swimwear throughout this month. Most notably, the line includes three Burberry-emblazoned surf boards—done in brown, beige, black, and baby blue. Though we’re not sure if we want to ride them or display them in a minimal-chic living room, there’s no denying they’re eye-catching and—let’s face it—primed for an Instagram moment.
Plus, what’s not to love about a creative mind like Tisci’s turning predispositions about a beloved brand on its head? Burberry may be intrinsically linked to London, but that doesn’t mean it can’t use a beachside vacation now and again. Couldn’t we all? And just in case you’re landlocked this summer, there’s always the living room.
