Kate Middleton was given a stunning sapphire engagement ring when Prince William proposed in 2010. The Duchess of Cambridge now wears three rings on her wedding finger, including a wedding band and eternity ring. A style expert revealed the special reason she wears them in a particular order.
- Kate Middleton was given £2,000 ring from William for this reason
When Kate and Prince William got engaged, the Duchess of Cambridge was given the engagement ring that once belonged to Princess Diana.
The sapphire and diamond jewel was designed by Garrad and features 14 solitaire diamond and a 12-carat oval blue Ceylon sapphire, estimated to be worth £300,000.
Kate and Prince William married on April 29, 2011 and the Duchess was given a gold wedding band.
Following the birth of Prince George in 2013, the Duchess of Cambridge started to wear a third ring on her wedding finger.
It has been reported the simple band was an eternity ring given as a gift from Prince William and thought to cost around £2,000.
When she is spotted out in public, Kate will often wear pieces of eye-catching jewellery.
The Duchess regularly sports all three rings she was given on her engagement finger, 77Diamonds.com managing director Tobias Kormind said.
He told Express.co.uk: “We’re noticing a trend at the moment of stacking rings together, to give that very brilliant, eye-catching effect.
“In addition to this, many women are now mixing styles, whereas it used to be the complete opposite a few years ago.
“This is what we are seeing here with Kate Middleton’s jewellery – it’s a completely effortless and chic look. Kate has mixed her historic engagement ring with a new eternity ring.”
The order in which Kate stacks them could have an important significance, the expert continued.
“We see that Kate Middleton is wearing her three rings in the traditional way,” he added.
- Kate Middleton and Prince William made unusual parenting choice
“She wears her wedding band worn closest to her, showing us that this ring is closest to her heart, then comes her famous sapphire engagement ring, previously owned by Princess Diana, and finally the eternity ring.
“Of course, you don’t necessarily have to wear your rings in that particular order, as this really is a matter of personal taste.”
The royal could be sending a sweet message to Prince William by wearing her wedding band closest to her heart.
The mother-of-three also shows off her individual style by wearing the rings together.
Tobias explained: “It used to be that your engagement ring would match your eternity ring, often being the exact same design.
“However, there’s this new trend happening right now where women are being more individualistic, expressing their own personal tastes and mixing styles up as they wish.
“With family heirlooms, like with Kate Middleton’s historic ring, a vintage design engagement ring can be easily paired with a more modern-looking eternity ring, linking past and present together, in a meaningful and enduring symbol of love.”
