Mo Gilligan is about to make history as the first black Brit Awards host on the 2022 edition of the annual music show, taking over from long-running host Jack Whitehall.

The comedian, 33, from London, is one of four judges on the popular ITV guessing show The Masked Singer as well as its sister-version The Masked Dancer.

Mo joined the panel consisting of Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross, and Davina McCall in the second series in 2020, replacing Ken Jeong.

Now, as he prepares to take the stage as host of the UK's biggest night in music on Tuesday, February 8, here's a look inside his life, career and net worth.

Mo's net worth is estimated to be £18 million, according to Entertainment Daily. The comedian who lived with his mother until recently, purchased a five bedroom house in North London.

On buying his house, he told The Sun: "I looked at Surrey, a lot of people in TV move out there, but I work a lot in London so I bought in North London. I bought a five-bedroom semi-detached house."

He added: "I'm the first person in my family to buy a property so it's a big deal. A lot of my family and friends will be coming over."

Mo grew up in Lambeth, South London. When he was five, his parents separated meaning that he had to split his time between them at their homes.

Talking to The Evening Standard, Mo revealed that he was grateful to still have them both playing active roles in his life. He said: "I think I’ve been very lucky. A lot of young black boys don’t have a father in their lives."

On his relationship with his mum, he added: "I love it, just me and my mum. Seal invited me to his show at the Palladium — that sounds so weird to say that — so I took my mum."

In his personal life, the funnyman has been in a long-term relationship with actress Sophie Wise, best known for playing Carly Bradley in Hollyoaks.

Sophie – whom Mo confirmed lives with him in his new home – has also starred several other TV shows and films including brief appearances on BBC medical dramas Holby City and Doctors.

How did Mo Gilligan become famous?

Mo first became famous as an internet sensation when he began uploading comedy videos on his social media accounts while working in a customer service job.

His break out came in 2017 after he was spotted by Canadian rapper Drake. Since then, there's been no looking back for the comedian.
