Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj will be dropping their albums on the same day — but don’t worry, they are NOT feuding.
If you’re a fan of the 35-year-old rapper, you’re most likely aware of the fact that she was planning on releasing her upcoming album, Queen, on August 10. Unfortunately, due to one particular track, which samples a Tracy Chapman song, the entire album has to be pushed back to allow time for the sample to be approved.
Nicki first told fans about a possible delay of the album on July 31, explaining via Twitter that she was thinking about either ditching the song altogether or keeping the track and releasing the album a week later than she originally planned:
We know what you’re thinking: At this point, fans have waited this long for the album, so what’s one more week, right? Well, it appears Nicki felt the same way, which is why she decided to keep the song and push the album’s release date to August 17. There’s just one problem, though: it’s the same day that her good friend Ari will be dropping her fourth studio album, Sweetener. Uh oh!
Although Nicki and Ari will undoubtedly be going head-to-head for the top spot on the Billboard Hot 200 chart, they want fans to know that, in real life, it’s all love. After some fans assumed that sharing a release date meant that there was beef between the two artists, the “God is a woman” singer came to Nicki’s defense on Twitter, explaining that she doesn’t even care about her position on the chart:
Nicki also sent out a sweet tweet, proving her love for Ari:
So clearly there’s no beef between Nicki and Ari. Even though they don’t care about who tops the chart, we’re not gonna lie… we can’t wait to find out! Hey, there’s nothing wrong with a little friendly competition.
