As England head to the Euro 2020 final against Italy, their first in 55 years, Football’s Coming Home anthem Three Lions has been having a resurgence. And now David Baddiel and Frank Skinner are reuniting with The Lightning Seeds to perform their 1996 hit single on TV. The latter’s frontman Ian Broudie will join the comedians tonight on Channel 4’s The Last Leg at 10pm, for a special 90-minute extended episode.
According to iNews, Broudie had said he’d “find an occasion” to perform Three Lions before the final took place.
The Lightning Seeds frontman said: “I haven’t seen David and Frank for a couple of years.”
And while admitting he will watch the final with the duo, the 62-year-old said the possibility of performing at Wembley on the day is “out of my control. We haven’t been invited yet.”
The outlet added it’s very unlikely this would happen at the stadium before kick-off as otherwise there could be accusations of an England bias.
Asked if he thinks England will win, Broudie replied: “It hasn’t quite come home yet. But there hasn’t been a moment like this in the song’s lifespan because we’re actually in a final.”
Three Lions has been a No 1 single four times, however, the three performers don’t earn much in terms of royalties.
Will Waldron PR executive at Off The Hook told Metro: “Similar to when the Christmas songs start in December, you’d assume each artist earns a fortune that time of year.
“However, an artist requires A LOT of streams to make money on music nowadays.”

Waldron added: “In the 2018 World Cup David Baddiel said they only made around £900 at one point, even after millions of streams.
“So you need a substantial amount of plays to earn a bigger lump sum.”
Baddiel himself told Chris Moyles on Radio X in 2020: “In 2018 or whatever, it was downloaded millions and millions of times.
“Although one thing I would say about that is occasionally whenever England do well and the song suddenly rises up and people love it, I always get a slightly cynical strand of men who start going on about royalties.”

Baddiel added: “And I want to say to them, ‘Do you know how much you get from Spotify?’
“Because I believe someone worked it out. I saw a newspaper article which said that it had been downloaded at England [vs] Columbia something like 16million times.
“Which works out between me, Frank and Ian Broudie at something like 900 quid between us!”
England v Italy kicks off on BBC 1 at 8pm this Sunday.
