Inside BBC star Martin Roberts’ heartbreaking reason for doing Full Monty strip

BBC Homes Under The Hammer star Martin Roberts has shared his heartbreaking reason for taking part in Strictly the Real Full Monty.

The 58-year-old presenter has revealed he will appear on the popular ITV show in memory of his best friend of 35 years David Hughes, who died of bowel cancer in 2017.

David left behind a wife and two teenage daughters and Martin is now baring all to raise awareness for cancer.

The former I'm A Celeb contestant told Daily Star: "The main thing is to get the message over that you've got to got to go to the doctors sooner rather than later.

"Especially if you've for any problems in areas that you consider to be private or embarrassed about.

"My mate Dave was the same age as me. He was 52 when he got diagnosed with bowel cancer. Two years later he died and that was four years ago.

"His wife is convinced if he went to the doctors sooner, he would still be here."

He added: "I went through the pain of losing my best mate of 35 years, best man at my wedding, and I just thought if I can help one person go to the doctors sooner and stop people suffering then that's got to be the be the most important TV show I'll ever do."

The big reveal was recorded in Blackpool last month and will air on ITV this evening.

Taking about the moment he bared all, Martin explained: "The crowd went bonkers and we do the full monty. Hopefully not everything will be revealed.

"It was a massive high and Dave's widow and two daughters came to the performance.

"I know he would be laughing his socks off.

"Everybody taking part had a story and we really did have a special time together."

Martin will be joined by celebrities such as Blue singer Duncan James, model Christine McGuinness and Olympian Colin Jackson – as they bare all for charity.

Strictly the Real Full Monty airs tonight on ITV and ITV Hub at 9pm
