Kate Garraway enjoys family time in snow amid heartbreaking Derek update

Good Morning Britain presenter and mother-of-two Kate Garraway continues to face unimaginable suffering throughout her husband Derek Draper’s health struggles, as he remains in a coma in hospital after battling coronavirus.

Yet despite the difficulties and pain the family have had to endure over the past year, the TV personality remains determined to ensure her kids have the best childhood they can possibly have in the circumstances.

Kate posted a video of her son Billy, 10, playing in the snow near their family home on her Instagram page on Tuesday.

Captioning the fun clip and explaining why she was having “too much fun” making memories with her kids to post any earlier, she wrote: “Sliding into Tuesday like…!

“Hey I know I am late on the #snow pics but we were having too much fun in it to post it ! Still pretty slippy out there so if you’re not 11 & bouncy like Billy – take care!”

Fans took to the comments to share their support and encouragement with the mother-of-two.

“Fabulous x stay strong K x,” one person wrote.

“Big hug lovely lady xx,” another said.

A third posted: “Great skid Billy!!!” followed by: “Fantastic, what a handsome boy.”

“So lovely to see them having fun in the snow xx,” a fifth fan added.

Meanwhile, Kate’s colleague and fellow presenter Piers Morgan delivered a heartbreaking update on Derek’s condition on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday.

The GMB anchor and co-host Susanna Reid were interviewing coronavirus vaccine minister Nadhim Zahawi when he told viewers Derek may "never be coming out of his coma".

Derek, 53, was admitted to hospital with the virus last March and despite now being free of Covid-19, he remains in a coma as his future is “incredibly uncertain” and is still “ravaged by effects of coronavirus” according to Kate last week.

After learning that Nadhim’s uncle had died after contracting the virus, Piers later said: “From him you can see he was not sure whether to tell us that.

“I’m sure [politicians] don't want to be seen to be using it in some way but actually personalising it is important. It's powerful because now we have the Vaccine Minister's own family has been hit by Covid.”

"We know from our colleague Kate Garraway whose husband Derek is still in a coma from Covid,” Piers then added. “He may never come out of that coma she’s been told this week and it's heartbreaking."

Kate also shared last week that she remained hopeful for her husband, insisting that despite being told the grim reality from doctors she knows of others who have come out of their coma and survived. "Why not Derek?" she said.
