Mel B has questioned why she and her Spice Girls bandmates were not awarded an MBE many moons ago.
The songstress was last week (May 4), presented an MBE by Prince William at Buckingham Palace following her work, raising awareness for domestic violence and being an ambassador to Women's Aid.
Melanie, 46, was left speechless after receiving a letter from the Prime Minister, informing her that he had spoken to Her Majesty The Queen about the prestigious recognition.
While one of her bandmates, Victoria Beckham, has also been recognised by the Queen, Melanie thinks all of her Spice Girls pals should be honoured.
Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored on TalkTV, the For Once In My Life songstress said: "It's really surreal to be honest, I don't take it personally to do with me.
"It's for all the women that have been through similar things to what I've been through, so it's more about raising awareness."
She went on to say: "To get an MBE for it is kind of crazy, I'm like 'why didn't the Spice Girls get an MBE?
"I mean, to do it for the women and to do it for what I'm doing it for is quite overwhelming, it still overwhelming."
Over the course of her career, Melanie has met the Royal Family on numerous occasions and admitted that she was in awe of the Queen following the news she will miss the state opening of Parliament for the third time in her 70 year reign.
"The Queen's been through so much, she's lost the love of her life," said Melanie, before continuing: "She's 96-years-old, so whatever she wants to do, she can do, she's the Queen.
"It's up to her and I bow down to that."
Melanie reflected on her times meeting Prince William and Prince Harry at Prince Charles' country retreat, Highgrove, where the chart-mauling girl group would fly in by helicopter.
Explaining the situation, she said: "We got invited to Highgrove many times, it wasn't our helicopter, it was theirs, they'd hire it for us and pick us up, we'd arrive on the lawn – it was quite fancy and well to do."
Recalling her experience at Buckingham Palace last week, she said: "It was really nice to see William again.
"I'm all grown up and I'm getting my MBE and he had such a long conversation with me, I got a bit embarrassed because the whole protocol is you wait for William to kind of talk to you before you speak and he ends the conversation.
"This conversation was going on, and on, I was looking behind like 'there's so many people waiting to get their MBE too'."
She continued: "Half of the conversation, I will never tell anybody because that's between me and him.
"But he was really taken aback by how I'm a Spice Girl yet I'm getting an MBE for raising awareness of domestic violence and women that are in vulnerable situations.
"He was asking me about my book, he really went quite deep, he was so sweet and polite and respectful."
