What Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy have said about wives’ Wagatha Christie trial

The 'Wagatha Christie' libel trial has resumed this week, after Rebekah Vardy sued Coleen Rooney for libel.

Until a few years ago, the names Jamie Vardy and Wayne Rooney were usually mentioned in the same breath in relation to who would gain the starting spot as the striker for England.

Now they are the husbands to two people going head-to-head in a libel trial that has gained national attention.

Coleen's dramatic accusation that fellow WAG Rebekah had been leaking stories about her to the press stunned people on social media in the UK.

While coverage of the trial has been widespread, far less has been publicly said by Rebekah and Coleen's respective husbands, but Wayne is now set to give evidence in the trial.

So what has the pair said about the trial?

Wayne Rooney has kept quiet publicly about the case involving his wife Coleen, but is set to give evidence today.

Rooney has been sitting alongside his wife in the courtroom during proceedings so far and will be called as a witness for his wife's defence.

The Manchester United and England record goalscorer, now manager of Derby County, is expected to be quizzed about an alleged conversation between him and Jamie Vardy during Euro 2016.

Wayne's cousin and Coleen's brother are also set to testify.

Stories have claimed Wayne spoke to his England teammate asking him to ensure Rebekah kept a lower profile. In court, Rebekah said: "Jamie was quite angry actually, as he currently still is. That conversation never took place.

"Actually I had a conversation with Mr Rooney about it on Facetime as well and I asked him about it and he basically said it was a load of b******s.

"He said no-one said a word, probably the FA. I thought the media were trying to stir up problems, create unnecessary drama and create scenarios that just weren’t existing and didn’t exist."

What has Jamie Vardy said about the trial?

Unlike his former England teammate, Jamie has previously stayed away from the courtroom, choosing instead to remain in training with Leicester City during their last few Premier League games – although he was spotted arriving with Rebekah on the morning of May 17.

He did initially like the tweet Rebekah sent back to Coleen, when Rooney posted her infamous accusation.

Rebekah's post read: "If you thought this was happening you could have told me & I could have changed my passwords to see if it stopped.

"I liked you a lot Coleen & I’m so upset that you have chosen to do this, especially when I’m heavily pregnant."
