Animal shelter posts hilarious ad looking for new owner for ‘world’s worst cat’

Cat lovers who like a challenge, this one’s for you. An animal shelter in North Carolina has posted an ad for what they say is “the world’s worst cat.”

While cats are known for often being difficult and contrary, black-and-white moggy Perdita takes it to the next level.

She likes hiding in dark corners and pouncing on people when they least suspect it, and hates hugs.

She apparently fooled shelter staff into taking her in by pretending to be ill but, the centre’s vet has been forced to admit, her only problem is she’s a jerk.

Mitchell County Animal Rescue in North Carolina posted an hilarious profile of Perdita in the hope of finding a loving home for her. Or maybe just to get her off their hands.

It read: “Meet Perdita, not for the faint of heart.”

It listed her likes as: “Staring into your soul until you feel as if you may never be cheerful again, and the song Cat Scratch Fever.

She apparently also loves the movie Pet Sematary, and in particular its malevolent cat villain Church.

Her numerous dislikes include the colour pink, kittens, dogs and children.

The ad concludes: “She's single and ready to be socially awkward with a socially awkward human who understands personal space.”

In one of the post’s few positive notes the shelter stresses that Perdita is entirely free to adopt. They don’t quite say “please take her away, we’re begging you” but the inference is quite clear.

Many Facebook commenters said that Perdita reminded them of their own cat, and some added that difficult cats can often mellow with age and eventually become quite loving.

But some others didn’t see the funny side of the tongue-in-cheek post. Liz Woods wrote: "What the hell is wrong with you people at the shelter?

“You don't like her so you sabotage any chance at adoption? Maybe the cat is perfectly fine and just doesn't like YOU because, let's face it, you're the real jerks here."

She concluded: “Fly her up to me and I'll be happy to give her a forever home.”

Other commenters were even less amused, with one person simply saying: “Just kill it” to the widespread disgust of dozens of cat fans.
