Are black holes gateways to a parallel universe? Let us know what you think

Black holes are one of the most fascinating things to have been discovered in outer space. Sucking in everything including light, black holes are invisible to the naked eye.

NASA explains the strong gravitational pull of a black hole occurs because of matter being pressed into a tiny space, adding this compression can take place at the end of a star's life.

Although black holes themselves cannot be seen, special telescopes can observe the behaviour of material and stars that are very close to black holes,NASAsays.

Some black holes can be as small as an atom but contain the mass of a mountain, while others can be the size of our solar system but have a mass greater than 1 million suns.

Sagittarius A, the black hole at the centre of our Milky Way galaxy, is believed to have the mass of around 4 millions suns squeezed into one, but thankfully, NASA scientists do not believe Earth will be pulled into a black hole any time soon.

But hypothetically speaking, what if the Earth was sucked into a black hole? What would happen? Would we be obliterated by gravity, or would we be transported to some kind of parallel universe?

Not much is actually known about what goes on in a black hole except that all matter gets compressed to an indefinitely tiny point and all notions of space and time are broken.

Interestingly, black holes are not actually holes. They are in fact objects, but because no light can escape them, they appear to us as holes.

However, because light cannot escape it, there could actually be a whole lot going on in black holes that we just cannot see.

Before he passed away in 2018, theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking disputed the idea that everything that gets sucked into a black hole is destroyed forever.

In a speech he made in 2015, Hawking said: “Black holes are not the eternal prisons they were once thought. If you feel you are trapped in a black hole, don’t give up. There is a way out.”

He continued to suggest that black holes may actually be gateways to another realm. He said: “The hole would need to be large and if it was rotating it might have a passage to another universe. But you couldn’t come back to our universe.”
