City is home to more ghosts than anywhere else as local sees ‘humanoid man’

Birmingham is home to more ghosts than anywhere else in Britain.

A whopping 31% of people in the city, home to rock legend Ozzy Osbourne and TV star Cat Deeley said they had seen a spook, a study has found.

In the UK as a whole, 20% of us claim to have spotted a phantom at some point in our lives.

Craig Cunningham, of Birmingham, said he saw a spirit in his bedroom when he was a teenager.

The archivist, 43, said: “I distinctly remember a ghost – I can only describe it as a humanoid-sized man holding a basket – walking through my room when I was about 18.

“I sat there and stared – I didn’t know what to do.”

The second most likely place to see a spook was Edinburgh, with 25% of folk claiming they had done so.

It was followed by Nottingham, Liverpool and Newcastle, with Bristolians among the least likely, according to the study carried out for video games firm Sega.

Last year, the Star Online reported on the claim by a paranormal expert that virtually all of us live alongside ghosts.

Investigator Rob Pyke said: “Chances are you probably have maybe a relative, somebody, in the house with you. A good 90% or more of us have a spirit in our houses.

“Whether they’re just looking out for us, whether they want to make themselves known to us or not, it’s up to them.”

Rob, who has been investigating ghosts for four decades, said that while it might sound terrifying, it shouldn’t be – and he’s had own spooky lodger.

“We had an old miner called Arthur living in our old house,” he said.

“We used to have the smell of tobacco waft past us and that's how you'd know he was there. It was absolutely fine.

“We lived in the house. He lived in the house – he might live there now.”
