UKHSA said the sub-variant, dubbed BA.2, has been deisgnated as a “variant under investigation”. 

Also nicknamed the “stealth variant”, there have been reports that is is outpacing other substrains of Omicron in some parts of the world.

And scientists warned last month that this verision of Omicron cannot be distinguished from other variants using the PCR tests.
