An eagle-eyed Google Maps user took to Reddit after finding a potential plane crash site in the middle of a field in Florida.

The image captioned with "Possible Plane Crash?" shows the white wreckage in an empty field surrounded by trees, near Frank Jarrell Road, Clermont, Florida.

Fellow Google Maps fans commented on the aerial image to try and uncover the mystery.

A user wrote: "Sure looks that way. Looks like a light jet, possibly a Hawker."

However, other viewers were left questioning why the damaged plane appears to have just been left where it landed.

Another user said: "If it is indeed a crash, seems so odd the entire wreckage would just be left there?"

One Redditor came up with an explanation as they said: "It may sound strange, but it is very common for aeroplane wreckage that is not "bothering" anyone to be left where it is indefinitely."

They went on to provide links to example crashes that have been left abandoned including Gol Transportes Aéreos Flight 1907 and Varig Flight 254.

According to reports, both of these crashes were left abandoned as the wreckages were difficult to remove from their landing spots.

Gol Transportes Aéreos Flight 1907 was a crash between two flights mid-air in September 2006.

The plane crashed into Embraer Legacy Flight 606 and crashed into an area of dense jungle, killing all 154 passengers and crew onboard one plane. The Embraer jet landed safely and all seven occupants remained unharmed.

The wreckage reportedly remains in the jungle.

Varig Flight 254 crashed when the crew entered an incorrect heading into the flight computer, flying deep into a remote area of the Amazon jungle in Brazil – where it is still located.

However, the user did say that the small wreckage should be easily removable.

The news comes after a Google Maps satellite image reveals a "ghost plane" flying above the site of a famous US plane crash that killed 273.

The spooky passenger jet can be seen near where American Airlines Flight 191 crash landed in Des Plaines, Illinois.
