End of the world: Preacher claims Earth ‘will catch fire and burn up’ in holy fire of God

Christian conspiracy theorists and doomsday preachers are stoking fears about the supposed forthcoming end of the world. Scripture relating to the end times prophesies natural cataclysms and destruction tied to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. And although the Bible does not stipulate when this will happen, some evangelists believe Armageddon could soon be at hand.

According to 2 Peter 3, the end of the world will be marked by heavenly fire raining upon the Earth.

The prophetic scripture reads: “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.

“Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.”

More passages about the fiery destruction of Earth can be found in the Book of Revelation, which holds the final chapters of the New Testament.

Revelation 8:5-7, for instance, reads: “Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.

“Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to sound them.

“The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth.

“A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.”

We’ve got to have intense heat, and UV rays, and CMEs, and stuff

Paul Begley, The Coming Apocalypse

According to Pastor Paul Begley, a TV evangelist out of West Lafayette in Indiana, US, all of these apocalyptic events will come to pass in due time.

Pastor Begley runs a popular YouTube channel and the weekly series The Coming Apocalypse, where he draws bizarre links between Bible prophecies and modern-day events.

And although there is very little scientific evidence to back his outlandish theories, the firebrand preacher is convinced the Second Coming of Christ is a matter of time.

In a recent broadcast to his more than 339,000 subscribers, Pastor Begley explained how the word will perish in holy fire.

He said: “Before the Earth eventually catches on fire and just burns up and the air and everything around it, the cosmos and everything, there’s still some stuff that’s gotta happen.

“First of all we’ve got to have intense heat, and UV rays, and CMEs, and stuff that’s gotta happen.”

Pastor Begley went on to say the Earth will go through massive changes in the End Days – possibly in the next few months or years.

He added: “If we have that much time.”

But there is nothing to suggest the planet will suffer any heavenly fire now or in the future.

From a scientific perspective, the planet will suffer more extreme heat in the coming years if climate change is allowed to go on unchecked.

On a grander scale, the Sun will massively expand into a red giant and scorch our planet – a safe five billion years from now.

And even the Bible warns against trying to predict or prophecy when, if at all, any of this will happen.

Jesus himself said in Matthew 24: “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.”
