Family portraits and Willy Wonka wallpaper found in time-capsule family home

An urban explorer uncovered an abandoned family home in the US – which still contains things belonging to the previous owners including family portraits.

The YouTuber known as ObsoleteVoids claims she travelled for 13 hours to explore the 'messy house' that the 'owners must have left in a hurry.'

The dark and drab little house still features furniture and appliances of the 1970s and has belongings that have been in the same place for decades waiting for their owners to return.

Portraits of two pretty young women have been left near some sheet music on the piano in the front room.

The walls in one room is decorated with fruit wallpaper, which some fans have compared to the flavoured wallpaper from Charlie in the Chocolate Factory.

Meanwhile, in the bedroom, there's a full rack of clothes hanging up on a rail and the bed looks slept in.

Describing the house, the explorer said: "When you walk in the back door, you can either go down into the cellar or you can walk into this kitchen.

"That was probably beautiful back when it was still lived in, but it looks like some animals have made their home in the ceiling, so there is, like, insulation everywhere. They literally left everything. All their food is still here."

Posting a collection of pictures to Facebook, she wrote: "How can a family just up and leave one day, and never return home?"

Facebook fans were saddened that such a cure house could have been left and wondered if the owner had any relatives who would have liked to have the pictures.

One user said: "This happens a lot. The kids move far away and don't come to visit. The parents die or go in a nursing home and if the house has little to no value it is just left behind."

Another added: "Sad makes you wonder what happened to this family."

A third said: "Someone was older; probably got sick, went to the doctor, was put in the hospital and never was able to return home. Happens more often than most people think."

A fourth wrote: "It's quite odd they left family pics. That's something you would definitely take."

A fifth added: "It makes me sad to see all of these family photos just left. For me, I cannot count the cost of the boxes of photos I have from my childhood to the time my cell phone replaced my camera.

"I feel they will just be left to waste away like these."
