The first Full Moon of the year is tonight, and already Brits have been able to see the beautiful Full Moon in the darkened sky. Full Moons are full of symbolism, and are often named after traditional occurrences during the month they fall.

The Wolf Moon is so named because hungry wolves would howl at the Moon in January due to lack of food.

Tonight is the first Full Moon of 2022 and will appear larger and lower than usual in the sky.

Full Moons happen when the Moon is positioned exactly opposite the Sun.

This means the Moon looks illuminated due to the full rays of the Sun reflecting on it.

How to get the best views of tonight’s Full Moon

Unfortunately, across the UK there is the potential for fog tonight – so seeing the Moon clearly may be difficult.

The best way to see the Moon is to head out to an area with low light pollution and simply look skyward.

If wanting to take some pictures, tonight’s Wolf Moon will reach its fullest size at 11.48pm.

According to a statement from NASA, you may also be able to catch a glimpse of the bright star Pollux near the Full Moon.

Pollux is the brightest star in the constellation Gemini.
