‘I found Bigfoot with my dad – most footage is fake but I filmed the real deal’

A Bigfoot hunter who has spent more than a decade searching for the elusive creature claims he and his dad captured a "flawless" video of the beast that proves its existence.

Stacy Brown Jr, from Florida, first became interested in Bigfoot while watching episodes of Unsolved Mysteries with his dad, the late Stacy Brown Sr, as a child. Seeing his dedication to looking for the animal, Stacy's dad, a retired army ranger, eventually sold his boat to buy a thermal camera so the pair could go on "Bigfooting" expeditions together.

While Stacy, 39, explained the trips were more about the bonding experience between him and his dad, the pair were left stunned when they finally found what they'd been looking for while camping in the Torreya State Park in Bristol, Florida, in May 2012. The father and son duo had set up their camping spot in the park when they started hearing strange noises.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, Stacy recalled: "I had some White Zombie playing, some metal music and we're cooking some ribs I believe and we heard a knock and I told my dad 'Hey that sounds like them, they're probably in the area'." Stacy's dad wasn't convinced, putting the sound down to the wind knocking trees together, but the noises continued until they heard an even more eerie sound.

"Another knock happened and another knock," he said.

"My dad goes 'Alright hey, if another one happens, we'll go out of here and look for them' and as soon as he says that, there was like a grunt before the knock."

The father and son duo went out to investigate and it wasn't long until Stacy's dad spotted something.

"We cranked the music up on the radio, headed out and as we approached it, we heard something run down this ridge. So we stopped and my dad initially thought it was a raccoon on the side of a tree that he was looking at. Then he thought it was two raccoons because it was sticking out of both sides of the tree," Stacy said.

But when his camera captured a huge man-shaped figure taking one long step across a gap in the trees before disappearing into the brush, Stacy's dad quickly realised it wasn't a raccoon. "It took off across the gap and he flipped out, He was like 'Get your gun, get your gun!'"

Stacy still remembers how scared his dad had been that night. "He's a retired army ranger and I ain't seen my dad shook like that," he recalled.

The worst was yet to come however. As the men decided to leave, something chased after them. "Scared as he is, we tear everything down and we're leaving and he was like 'it was big, this is big man' and this thing followed us all the way up the hill. We're talking a mile, that hill was a mile to get out and it followed us all the way up to the Boy Scout camp."

When they got back to their truck, Stacy tried to convince his dad to stay but he was so petrified he refused. "I'm like 'dude, we're out here to find Bigfoot and you just filmed him and you're ready to leave?' He was like 'here smartass, you have the camera and go back down there your damn self, I'm done'."

It was only when he saw the footage himself that Stacy realised the animal had been a Bigfoot-like creature. Stacy now works as a filmmaker documenting his search for Bigfoot but revealed he's not convinced by all the evidence out there.

In fact, he believes most footage of the creature is fabricated, including the Patterson–Gimlin film — a legendary video recorded at Bluff Creek, California in 1967 that appeared to show a huge hair animal walking around like a human. "90% of your footage is fake," Stacy said.

"Most of the videos are a hoax, I believe the Patterson-Gimlin film is a hoax and that's the most famous Bigfoot video there is, I 110% believe that's fake," Stacy said.

He even admitted his own footage was hard to believe at first, despite the fact he'd already seen a Bigfoot with his own eyes while camping with a friend the year before. "It's hard to believe right, it's still hard to believe when I watched that I was like 'dude are you serious?' and even though I'd seen one it's hard to believe we caught one on camera."

But he claims the footage he and his dad got is far more compelling than some of the other Bigfoot videos out there because of the investigative evidence that followed. "We didn't do the investigation, we outsourced it. I got Cliff Barackman from Finding Bigfoot who I did not know at the time to do the investigation," Stacy explained.

During his investigation, Cliff took measurements from the site, including the tree the creature was spotted standing behind and the gap it crossed and determined the mysterious animal had a shoulder width of between 41 to 42 inches, that it had crossed a distance of 4ft 8inches with the step it made and that it was around 8ft tall. "Every result of every calculation showed that whatever is in that film is simply immense," Cliff concluded.

Stacy said Cliff also had the video assessed by a CGI expert and presented it to thermographers who all said it was a "real animal". "When you look at the video and then his investigation, when you look at the two together, there's no flaws on this," Stacy claimed.

But he's frustrated the evidence still hasn't been enough to convince some scientists. "They always move the goalposts," he said, adding: "We have video and we got the numbers and we got all the math and all the science that you can possibly do to it, the science won't accept it."
