Mesmerising clouds moving like a tsunami leave residents in awe in viral video

This is the spectacular moment a wave-like cloud formation moving in the sky giving the impression you were getting engulfed by a tsunami.

The mesmerising footage shows a strange cloud pattern looming over the houses in a rather quiet neighbourhood.

"What is it?" a young child can be heard asking his mother repeatedly.

Another girl says: "Woah, look at that."

The footage is thought to be taken in Cincinnati, Ohio and was shared on a Reddit page.

The unusual weather phenomenon, known as rolling clouds, left the viewers in awe and some who have seen it before shared their experiences in comments.

"I saw clouds like this once while driving, came around a bend and slammed on my brakes because it legitimately looked like a huge wave was about to crash down on us," one wrote.

"It was incredible, really beautiful after I understood I wasn't about to die."

A second shared: "I saw one once about a year ago. It was a warm evening and it came over the valley on a big farm behind my house, moved super fast and came with a really cold wind."

And a third added: "I’ve seen this 3-4 times living on one of the great lakes. never saw it on the islands though."

According to Met Office, rolling clouds, or Arcus clouds in its official term, are typically associated with powerful thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, heavy rain or hail showers as well as thunder and lightning.

On Monday, locals in Cincinnati have witnessed similar "crazy" cloud formations in their neighbourhoods.

They shared photos and videos on Facebook pages, showing how the clouds were moving in the sky.

The National Weather Service reported on Tuesday that wind gusts of up to 70mph were expected to affect the city during the storm.
