Peaky Blinders virtual reality game that immerses players in Tommy Shelby’s world of street gangs to launch in 2020

A virtual reality experience set in the world of Peaky Blinders is to be developed with the help of government funding.
Artificial intelligence technology means that virtual characters will be able to interact and respond to players’ gestures, movements, voice and body language.
Due to be released next year, each player will enter the criminal world of the show’s urban street gangs and have different experiences.
The developers say that players will ‘literally be part of the Peaky Blinders world’ and attempt to complete covert missions to defeat rival gangs.
They will be able to explore iconic locations from the show, including the Shelbys’ illegal betting shop and The Garrison pub.

The game is being produced by entertainment studio Maze Theory, which has been awarded funding by the Government’s Audience of the Future Programme.
Maze Theory was formed by former Activision and Sony PlayStation veterans and London based creative agency Output Group.
Business Secretary Greg Clark said that developing new immersive storytelling experiences for UK content gives the chance to lead the world in the next generation of entertainment.
Clarke, announced £4 million ($5.2 million) in funding has been awarded to a group including ‘Wallace & Gromit’ filmmakers Aardman.
‘Success stories like Oscar-winning Wallace And Gromit and BAFTA-winning Peaky Blinders are part of the reason why our creative industries are truly world-leading,’ he said.
‘Attracting audiences both here in the UK and internationally and helping create a sector already worth some £100 billion to our economy.
‘It’s why through our modern Industrial Strategy we’re investing to build on this huge global demand for UK creative content and ensure we lead the world in the next generation of entertainment.
‘This backing will also give our home-grown talent the opportunity to lead the way in creating and using virtual and augmented reality technologies, remain at the cutting edge and create thousands of highly skilled jobs.’
Maze Theory executive producer Russell Harding said he hoped this type of virtual reality experience would become the ‘future of entertainment’.
‘This is Maze Theory’s first AI-enhanced immersive drama and we are incredibly excited about the unrivalled and entirely new experience this gives players,’ he said.
‘They will literally be part of Peaky Blinders’ world and be able to interact with characters in ways no one can predict.
‘Fans of the cult show have been calling out for this type of experience and we’re honoured to be giving it to them. This is the future of entertainment.’
WHAT IS VIRTUAL REALITY?
Virtual reality is a computer-generated simulation of an environment or situation.

Virtual reality is the term used to describe A three-dimensional, computer generated environment which can be explored and interacted with by a person.
That person becomes part of this virtual world or is immersed within this environment and whilst there, is able to manipulate objects or perform a series of actions.
How is virtual reality achieved?
Virtual reality is usually implemented using computer technology. There are a range of systems that are used for this purpose, such as headsets, omni-directional treadmills and special gloves.
These are used to actually stimulate our senses together in order to create the illusion of reality.
